On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. One of the Buddhist temples burnt down by the settlers.

Bangladesh army tortures indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Rangamati

On 28 June 1989, Bangladesh army personnel of 5 EBR from the army camp at Kudukchari severely beat 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at a market at Kudukchari in Rangamati. One of the victims was a minor boy. The victims are:

1. Mr. Ladi Charan Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Tedimoni Chakma of Kudukchari, Rangamati.
2. Mr. Bhagaban Chakma, 12 yrs, son of Mr. Satan Moni Chakma, address as above.

India was partitioned on the basis of religion in 1947. 98.5% of the CHT population was non-Muslim during the partition. The indigenous people of CHT opted to join either India or Burma. But Muslim League conspired with the Boundary Commission and illegally annexed CHT with East Pakistan in violation of the principle of partition. Successive Bangladesh governments have been sponsoring Muslim settlers from plain land to dilute the indigenous people of CHT.

Bangladesh army's role in CHT is to protect the Muslim settlers and carry out massacre, extra-judicial killing, torture, detention withou trial, land grab, rape, religious persecution and ethnic cleansing against indigenous Buddhist, Hindu and Animist people in CHT.
