On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. On 4 January 1990, Bangladesh Army of the 29 East Bengal Regiment from the Baghaichari Zone led by Lt. Col. Mustafizur Rahman attacked the indigenous Buddhist village of Rupakari Chara in Baghaichari, Rangamati District.
Bangladesh army tortured innocent indigenous Buddhist men, women and children. Bangladesh army also attacked the Rupakari Bouddha Vihar and assaulted a Buddhist Monk there.
