On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.

Bangladesh army robs indigenous Buddhist villagers in Laxmichari

On 30 August 1990, Bangladesh army led by Maj. Salim from the Banyashola Army Camp, Capt. Zahir and Capt. Ziaur from the Dulyatali Army Camp and one Captain from the Manikchari Zonal HQ carried out a massive military operation against the inhabitants of Suknachari, Guichari, Pekkua Para, Naubhanga and Morachengi villages in Laxmichari, Khagrachari district.

Bangladesh army robbed all valuable goods from indigenous people, tortured indigenous villagers and then set many houses on fire. The 3 of the many affected villagers are:

  1. Mr. Mangaldhan Chakma (35), the son of Mr. Fakira Chakma of North Suknachari in Barmachari area within the Laxmichari. Bangladesh army robbed Taka 120000.00 worth of property from him
  2. Mr. Bashi Chakma (45), the son of Mr. Dhananjay Chakma of Guichari village in Barmachari area within Laxmichari. Bangladesh army robbed Taka 85000.00 worth of property from him
  3. Mr. Amish Kumar Chakma (40), the son of Mr. Bujya Chakma of Morachengi village in Dhurung area within Laxmichari. Bangladesh army robbed Taka 120000.00 worth of property from him.
