On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu

On 4 April 1991, Bangladesh army from Karelyachari camp and from the Zonal Head Quarter at Mainee Mukh led by Major Ruhul Amin carried out a military operation against the Shanti Bahini. During the operatin Bangladesh army subjected the indigenous Buddhist people of Dadipara and Madhyachara in Longadu, Rangamati district with inhuman tortures and beating.

Bangladesh army stripped one indigenous Chakma Buddhist off clothes and subjected him to tortures. 2 other indigenous Chakma Buddhists were forcibly made to eat earth worms by the Bangladesh army personnel. The victims were:

  1. Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma (32), son of Mr. Gunasen Chakma of Dadipara, Longadu
  2. Mr. Sukh Shanti Chakma (35), son of Mr. Sundar Kumar Chakma. Bangladesh army perpetrators forced him to eat live earth worms at gun point. He is still detained by the Bangladesh army
  3. Mr. Priyalal Chakma (26), son of Mr. Kitilal Chakma
  4. Mr. Dinamohan Chakma (27), son of Mr. Ratrimohan Chakma. He was also forced to eat live earth worms by Bangladesh army at gun point
  5. Mr. Debarmani Chakma (30), son of Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma
  6. Mr. Fezettua Chakma (22), son of Mr. Shekhar Chandra Chakma He is still detained by Bangladesh army
  7. Mr. Kalimay Chakma (20), son of Mr. Sadhanmani Chakma
  8. Mr. Rajendra Chakma (40), son of Mr. Sarat Chandra Chakma
  9. Mr. Loby Kumer Chakma (24), son of Mr. Khularam Chakma. He was stripped off clothes and was beaten severely by Bangladesh army perpetrators
  10. Mr. Barpeda Chakma (25), son of Mr. Durgamohan Chakma
  11. Mr. Kamallua Chakma (24), son of Mr. Kitilal Chakma
