On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture 2 indigenous people in Rangamati

On 13 April 1991, Bangladesh army of 5 EBR from Kudukchuri army camp led by a Major arrested and tortured 2 indigenous men at Hazachari in Rangamati sub-district.

Indigenous people arranged wrestling on the occassion of Bizu (new year) at Hazachari village of Kudukchari Union. Suddenly Bangladesh army surrounded the indigenous people without any reason, arrested 2 and falsely accused them of being Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army hacked 1 of them with knife and seriously injured him. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Dina Mohan Chakma (35), son of Mr. Baneshwar Chakma. He was serious injured in the knife attack and taken to Rangamati Hospital for treatment.
  2. Mr. Habu Chandra Chakma (20), son of Mr. Mechangya Chakma.
