When whole country was celebrating the victory day of the country on 16 Dec 2014, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous people in Bagachari area of Naniarchar to evict them from their traditional land. 50 indigenous houses, 7 shops and 1 Buddhist temple were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Naniachar
On 22 June 1991, Bangladesh army of 8th EBR from Naniachar army camp led by Capt. Shamim Jagrul launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Dajya Para, Kengelchari, Tarachari, Ramsupari Para and Kerengyanala in Naniachar, Rangamati district.
During the operation, Bangladesh army indiscriminately beat and torture indigenous people. The victims are:

Mr. Shatrughna Chakma (16), son of Mr. Nishi Kumar Chakma of Tarachari, Naniachar.

Mrs. Nirbasona Chakma (26), wife of Mr. Kalamanucchya Chakma of Dajya Para, Naniachar.
