Indigenous victims of Naniachar attack

When whole country was celebrating the victory day of the country on 16 Dec 2014, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous people in Bagachari area of Naniarchar to evict them from their traditional land. 50 indigenous houses, 7 shops and 1 Buddhist temple were destroyed.

Bangladesh army beat and rob indigenous people in Naniachar

On 30 June 1991, Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers attacked, beat and robbed indigenous people in Naniachar, Rangamati district.

The attack was in reprisal to Shanti Bahini's hit and run attack on 29 June 1991 on VDP (Village Defence Party) camp near Burighat Bazar in Naniachar in which 5 VDP and 9 Muslim settlers were killed and 10 were wounded.

Bangladesh army from Khariksong army camp robbed indigenous people who were returning home by boat from the Reserve Bazar in Rangamati. Some of the victims are:

  1. Mr. Swapan Kumar Chakma (35), son of Mr. Sahasra Chakma.
  2. Mr. Dharma Joy Chakma (25), son of Mr. Punya Ram Chakma.
  3. Mr. Chinta Moni Chakma (35).
  4. Mr. Kalya Chakma (26), son of Mr. Dalakana Chakma.
  5. Mr. Bijoy Kumar Chakma (28), son of Mr. Bimal Chandra Chakma.
  6. Mr. Bijay Singh Chakma (39), son of Mr. Ishan Moni Chakma.
  7. Mr. Ratta Chakma (50), son of Mr. Surya Chakma.
  8. Mr. Dhana Moni Chakma (23), son of Mr. Ratta Chakma.
  9. Mr. Abhirata Chakma (25), son of Mr. Areiya Chakma.

On 30 June 1991, in reprisal to the same Shanti Bahini attack of 29 June 1991, Bangladesh army of 8th EBR from Burighat army camp shot dead an indigenous man at Keretchari in Naniachar, Rangamati district. He was returning home at Gorkset from Kudukchari Bazar by boat. The victim is:

  1. Mr. Bimaleshwar Chakma (50), son of late Bhandalya Chakma.
