On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. One of the Buddhist temples burnt down by the settlers.
Bangladesh army desecrate Buddhist temple in Mahalchari
On 24 Oct. 1991, Muslim settlers with the support of the Bangladesh army of the 24 East Bengal Regiment from Mohalchari Zone raided the Janabal Sudarshan Bauddha Vihar at Ulta Chari village in Mahalchari, Khagrachari district.
During the raid, Muslim settlers robbed, vandalized and destroyed Lord Buddha's images of the temple.
