Bengali settlers attack indigenous people in RangamatiOn 20 May 1992, Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people in Rangamati. A detailed report of this incident has not yet been received. The Khaleda Zia regime has received adequate financial aid from the Bangladesh Aid Consortium in April 1992. So it has become more determined to go ahead with the Muslim settlement programme in the CHT. With this view in mind, the Bangladesh government has recently started to shift more Muslim settlers to new places like Pablakhali in Dighinala, Khagrachari district, Marishya in Baghaichari, Rangamati district and so on. Bangladesh government has been receiving money and relief supplies for the so called Rohingya refugees (repatriated Muslim settlers from Myanmar) who have been sheltered in Bandarban district (within the CHT) and in Cox's Bazar district. Bangladesh government has sheltered thousands of Bangladeshis in the so called Rohingya refugee camps in order to get more financial help from the international community. Most possibly these Muslim settlers disguised as so called Rohingya refugees will be kept in the refugee camps even after the repatriation of the so called Rohingya refugees and eventually be rehabilitated in the CHT with the financial help of the UNO and the world community.
