On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed. Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Kawkhali

On 23 August 1993, Bangladesh army numbering 30 soldiers of 18 EBR from Nabhanga army camp in Ghagra Zone led by Lt. Aziz and Subedar Rafiqullah launched a military campaign against the indigenous inhabitants of the Dajya Para in Kawkhali, Ranganati district.

Bangladesh army arrested 6 innocent indigenous villagers, took them to the camp and tortured them during interrogation. Later, the victims were sent to Rangamati Police Station where they were detained. The victims are:

2. Mr. Kalo Mani Chakma (28), son of Mr. Kulendra Chakma
3. Mr. Kulendra Chakma (55), son of Mr. Jura Mani Chakma
4. Mr. Nila Mani Chakma (25), son of Mr. Kulendra Chakma
5. Mr. Krishna Mani Chakma (16), son of Mr. Kulendra Chakma
6. Mr. Vija Chakma (26), son of Mr. Biman Chakma
