Bangladesh army terrorize indigenous people in NaniacharOn 5 July l994, Bangladesh army from Naniachar Military Zone led by Lt. Col. Salauddin launched a massive campaign in the villages of Darjya Para, Ramsupari Para, Tibira Chari, Larma Para, Jaripya Para, Shil Chari and Tengra Chari in Naniachar, and in the villages of Dur Chari, Lakshmi Chari and Edokhul Chara in Lakshmichari. Bangladesh army attacked Shanti Bahini camps and personnel. The Shanti Bahini opened fire in self defence resulting in many casualties to the invaders. In retaliation Bangladesh army ransacked the houses of indigenous villagers. The following indigenous people were among the victims:
India was partitioned on the basis of religion in 1947. 98.5% of the CHT population was non-Muslim during the partition. The indigenous people of CHT opted to join either India or Burma. But Muslim League conspired with the Boundary Commission and illegally annexed CHT with East Pakistan in violation of the principle of partition. Successive Bangladesh governments have been sponsoring Muslim settlers from plain land to dilute the indigenous people of CHT. Bangladesh army's role in CHT is to protect the Muslim settlers and carry out massacres, land grabs, rapes, religious persecutions and ethnic cleansing against indigenous Buddhist, Hindu and Animist people in CHT. Bangladesh army restricts access to Chittagong Hill Tracts to foreign media and tourists.
