On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed at least 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Mrs. Suradini Chakma the wife of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the ferry. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bangladesh army indiscriminately open fire on indigenous Buddhist people in Betchari

On 30 August 1995, Bangladesh army led by Lt. Col. Bari conducted a massive combing operation in the areas of Durchari, Banarkata, Gungeichari, Toichangma and Betchari within Khagrachari District.

They indiscriminately opened fire on the indigenous Buddhist villagers, tortured the Buddhist villagers en masse, and looted houses. In the indiscriminate firing, Mrs. Bichingi Chakma 22 and her 1 and 1/2 year old baby were seriously injured. She and her baby were taken to the Bangladesh Military Hospital in Chittagong.

Bangladesh army can arbitrarily detain, interrogate and torture any indigenous person in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Bangladesh army requires no warrant, suspicion is enough to harass the indigenous people. Bangladesh army is driving out indigenous Buddhist, Hindu and Christian tribes from Chittagong Hill Tracts and settling Muslim settlers in their villages. Their aim is to Islamize Chittagong Hill Tracts by terror.
