Bengali settler attempt to rape an indigenous girl in Matiranga

On 9 September 1995, a member of VDP (Village Defence Pary, militia of Muslim settlers) attacked Miss Priti Rani Tripura (14) daughter of Mr. Barendra Tripura of Kumindra Karbari Para in Matiranga, Khagrachari district. The VDP man attempted to rape her while she was going to school.

Once Priti Rani came under attack, she cried out for help and at the same time she did her best to resist the Muslim settler. Luckily Mr. Shanti Mohan Tripura heard her desperate cry and rushed to the spot. Mr. Tripura helped Priti Rani and freed her from the clasp of the Muslim settler rapist.

It is note worthy that local Bangladesh army commander had not only refused to punish the Muslim settler rapist but also reminded Mr. Barendra Tripura and other indigenous people that the Bangladesh government had sent Bangladesh army to the CHT to protect the Muslim setters and not the indigenous people of the CHT.
