Bangladeshi Government brings more Bengali settlers to CHT

As of 15 January 1996, Bangladesh Government have been continuing the state financed Muslim settlement scheme as part of their policy to Islamise the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Bangladesh Government is bringing in thousands of male Muslim settlers and sheltering them at District and Thana (Police Station) Headquarters. These new arrivals are provided with free rations, accommodation and transport by the local civil and military authorities and the Jamat‑E‑Islami party. At the same time, the Bangladesh Government have directed all the municipalities and district councils to settle and employ them in their respective areas.

In compliance with the Bangladesh Government's directives, recently the municipalities, Bangladesh army and Jamat‑E‑Islami have supplied some 900 Muslim settlers with rickshaws free of cost. After being settled properly, these Muslim settlers and rickshaw pullers would bring their families into the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

It has been learnt from reliable sources that the Bangladesh army would use them during the state organised communal riots and military campaigns not only to attack the indigenous Buddhist and Hindu people but also to carry the booty after robbing the indigenous people's houses.

Similarly, the District Councils and Union Councils have been settling and employing the Muslim settlers in their respective regions. After being settled properly, these new Muslim settlers would bring their families and relatives from plain land districts of Bangladesh.
