Bengali settlers attempt to rape an indigenous pregnant woman in KaukhaliOn 5 March 2015, Muslim settlers attempted to rape a pregnant Marma woman at Headman Para village under Kaukhali in Rangamati. The tying her husband with rope. At night at around 10:30 pm, a group of Muslim settlers numbering 5 led by Saddam Hossain (21) and Bappi Majumder (22) attacked victim’s home. Muslim settlers tied victim’s husband Uchi Maung Marma and beat him. Later they attempted to rape the pregnant woman and tried to rob a mobile phone form the victim. However after a lot of shouting and screaming, neighbors came to their rescue. Next day Uchi Maung Marma went to file a case with Kaukhali police station. However police did not accept the case with the excuse of absence of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station. On 7 March 2015, Uchi Maung Marma again went to the police station and filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000, case no.1 (2003) 9 (4) Kha/clause 30. The victim was sent to a local victim support centre. It is reported that the victim as well as the baby inside remained out of danger. It is learnt that this was not the first time Muslim settlers attempted to rape indigenous women. They had harassed other locals too. Police could not arrest anyone in this connection.
