Settlers argue with Buddhist monk
In August 2007, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers broke into the boundary of Sadhantila Buddhist Temple in Dighinala and began erecting houses inside the temple boundary. Here the settlers argue with resident Buddhist monk.

Bengali settlers intimidate a Buddhist monk for defending a temple in Manikchari

On 5 July 2015, a Muslim settler Abul Kalam, the Chairman of Manikchari Union Council threatened Ven. Bodhi Ratna Bhante a Buddist monk in charge of Pragnabhumi Shantipada Meditation Centre for defending his temple from Muslim settler encroachment in Manikchari, Khagrachari district.

In the morning of 5 July 2015, the indigenous Buddhist villagers of Bokripara and Monadongpara in Manikchari, Khagrachari began building a temple on their land.

But when the Muslim settlers tried to stop them with the help of the Bangladesh army, a tension ensued between the indigenous villagers and the Muslim settlers.

Hearing the news of the tension, Abul Kalam rushed to the spot and began arguing with the Buddhist monk who was overseeing the construction of the temple.

After being unable to defeat him in the argument, Abul Kalam threatened the monk, saying "There was peace in the area until now. It has gone away since you came here. All these things are happening because of you. If any untoward incident happens today or in future, I will take action against you."

In reply to his threat the monk said- "No. peace has gone away since the planting of mango sapling in our land by Bengali settlers. They are the trouble mongers."
