Bangladesh army and Bengali settlers attempt to grab indigenous Buddhist land in Ramgarh

On 5 August 2015, Muslim settlers and Bangladesh army attempted to grab indigenous land in Ramgarh, Khagrachari district. Muslim settlers and Bangladesh army conspired to set up a mosque and army camp on indigenous Buddhist land.

A group of Bangladesh army personnel from Manikchari sub zone and a group of 30 to 40 Muslim settlers went to North Halfchari, about 3 kilometrs south-east of Manikchari Upozila (sub-district) headquarters. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers tried to build a mosque on 2 acres of land belonging to Tuio Marma (25) son of Apruchi Marma and an army camp on 6 acres of land belonging to Sadhon Chakma (30) son of Sumati Chakma.

They began building the mosque and the camp at 10 a.m. But indigenous Buddhist villagers dismantled the structure in the afternoon after Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers had left.
