Jyoti Ranjan Chakma, victim of Muslim settler attack at Jaliapara
On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.

Bangladesh army arrest PCJSS and indigenous Buddhists people in Bilaichari

On 5 December 2017, Ram Charan Marma alias Rasel (56), Vice-President of Bilaichari Upazila Awami League was physically attacked by some unidentified persons at Tilikyachari village in Bilaichari, Rangamati district. On 7 Dec. 2017, Ram Chanran Marma filed a case against 31 innocent persons including members of PCJSS and its associate organizations.

As a result of filing a case by Mr. Marma, Bangladesh army of 13 EBR from Digholchari army zone arrested 4 indigenous persons during operation in Digholchari and Kerengchari villages in Bilaichari, Rangamati district. The detainees are:

  1. Suman Chakma (28), son of Amarendra Lal Chakma of Digholchari.
  2. Buddha Bijoy Tanchangya (25) son of Lambahula Tanchangya of Digolchari.
  3. Bitomoni Chakma, son of Nalini Chakma of Kerengchari
  4. Sunil Kanti Chakma, son of Kalimon Chakma of Kerengchari

On the other side, another army group commanded by Subedar Mizan of Taktanala camp under Farua union conducted an operation in the Taktanala village and held a shopkeeper named Chandra Tanchangya, a member of Farua union parishad named Ranyabi Chakma and her husband. Bangladesh army compelled Ranyabi and her husband move along with them throughout the night during their search operation. Later on, though they released the couple but held Chandra Tanchangya and handed him over to the police.
