On 19 September 2024, Bangladesh army shot Rubel Tripura to death at Swanirvar Bazar in Khagrachari. At that night Bangladesh army gunned down another indigenous youth and injured at least 18 indigenous youths with gunshot wounds.

Bangladesh army murder 2 indigenous Buddhists in Khagrachari

On 19 September 2024 at around 9 pm, a group of indigenous students and youth blocked the roads in Khagrachari town's Swanirvar Area, Narankheya area to protest the Dighinala attack. At that time, several groups of the army appeared there. This created a tense situation and altercation between the indigenous youths and Bangladesh army.

At one point, Bangladesh army opened fire. On the other hand, the indigenous students used slings. Meanwhile, many indigenous students and youths were injured in fresh firing by the army. It is said that some of the students were seriously injured in the stomach, knees and legs.

As of writing this report, 3 indigenous people have been killed by the army firing. Multiple sources said this number could be higher. The 3 victims are-

  1. Junan Chakma (20), son of Rupayon Chakma, mother Ruposha Chakma, of Jamtali village.
  2. Rubel Tripura, (24), son of Gorjosh Moni Roaza and mother Nirinta Tripura, of Poltonjoy village.

At least 18 indigenous youths were injured with gunshot wounds fired by the Bangladesh army.

Some of the victims identified who were injured in the shooting and are undergoing treatment at Khagrachari Hospital are-

  1. Jotishar Tripura, son of Manjit Ranjan Tripura, Chelachara, Perachara Union.
  2. Kiran Tripura, son of Kalenmoy Tripura, Chelachara, Perachara Union.
  3. Sujan Tripura, son of Sahodeb Tripura, Gomti, Gomti Union
  4. Sumen Chakma, son of Suresh Chakma, Doyaram Para, Perachara Union
  5. Ripu Tripura, son of Monishar Tripura, Amrita Para, Gashbagan, Bhaibon Chara Union
  6. Knowledge Chakma, son of Nikunjoy, Nilakanta para, Perachara, Perachara Union
  7. Sohel Chakma, son of Samongal Chakma, Nilakanta para, Perachara, Perachara Union
  8. Anandamoy Chakma, son of late Chandra Kumar Chakma, Nilakanta Para, Perachara, Perachara Union
  9. Proyash Chakma, son of Noyanmoni Chakma, Nila Kanta Para, Perachara, Perachara Union
  10. Shubakkon Chakma, son of Sonchoy Chakma, Jamtali, Perachara Union
  11. Babul Moni Chakma, son of Bir Kumar Chakma, Singinala, Perachara Union
  12. Bijoy Chakma, son of Kanta Chakma, Doyaram Para, Perachara Union.
  13. Kong Chakma, son of late Sadhan Bikash Chakma, Headman Para, Perachara Union.
  14. Klanta Chakma, son of Joy Kumar Chakma, Paulukya para, Perachara Union
  15. Nantu Chakma, son of unknown, Gashbagan, Boropara, Bhaibonchara Union
  16. Manob Tripura, son of unknown, Gashbagan, Bhaibon chara Union
  17. Babu Chakma, son of unknown, Singinala, Perachara
  18. Pragya Dewan, son of Junan Dewan, Marishya, Bagaichari, Rangamati District

The names of many others were not available till the writing of this report. It has been reported that 2 to 6 injured people have been shifted to Chittagong for treatment.
