About Me
Well, I figured it was about time I added a page about me, so here I am!
My name is Katrina Johnson, I am 25 and in the process of moving from Montreal back to Alberta. I was born in the state of Washington, in the USA and moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada at age 2. Discover Medicine Hat Online! I stayed there until I left for university in Victoria, B.C. I have lived all over the country it seems: Medicine Hat, (spent summers in Calgary and Pincher Creek), Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal, soon to be living in Lethbridge, Alberta, and of course 6 months in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.
My mother is from the state of Washington and my father from Saskatchewan. Both come from small towns where their parents were farmers. My mom is now a Grade 2 teacher at Irvine School in Irvine, Alberta and my father a Credit Union Manager at Apex Credit Union in Calgary, Alberta. My uncle is a member of the Poverty Plainsmen, a Canadian country band. If they get a website up, I will be sure to add it here.
I thought I had finally finished university when I had received a Bachelor of Arts degree double major in
French and Spanish from the University of Victoria and a Certificate in Immigration and Interethnic Relations from Universite du Quebec a Montreal.
However, six long years of university and can you believe I am going back? It felt so great to be done..but now it is time for me to head back! I don't think I will ever be able to say I have permanently left post-secondary education! Haha. I am waiting to be accepted at the University of Lethbridge, but if that doesn't work out I have been accepted to University of Calgary. I am going back to get my B.Ed.
Feel free to check out my resume . I will always be open to hearing about new opportunities..especially in my great love: Africa.
So, what is there to learn about me? Or perhaps more importantly, what do you want to know? Let's start with some of my interests:
--- NEW! I have discovered that I LOVE teaching! I am currently (for this last week of April) teaching ESL to adults and one class of children, and then moving to Lethbridge, Alberta to get my B.Ed. in elementary education!
--- I love to read. Now that university is over, I have lots of time to read. I have a good library going in my home. Poetry books, childrens books, plays, English literature, new fiction, travel books (especially on africa). If you are looking for a good book, I am sure I can help you out! Check out my newest page: Kat's Library to check out some of my recommendations!
--- I have two cats: Spaz and Fila. Spaz is two years old and as a kitten she was definitely a spazzy little thing, hence the name. She is very independent, doesnt like to be held too much, but when she is ready for attention she lets you know! Fila is four months old. Cute as a button, but very demanding.
She is always wanting to be held by mommy (me). If I'm not around someone else will do, but careful! she knows if you don't like her! Fila means two in dioula (an african language). The two could mean many things, I suppose, I think only the future will show what it really meant. Haha.
--- I love music as well. I have tons of cds. I love international music, again mostly african, rock music, canadian music, classical, opera, even some country (yes, mom, you heard right!). I pretty much like all music but rap and dance. Although the odd dance song can slip by me!
--- I absolutely love travelling. I have been across Canada and the U.S. numerous times, to border towns in Mexico (Tijuana and Nogales), northern Italy (Bergamo, Milano, Venezio), Antigua in the Caribbean, Colchester and London England, and of course Africa: Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Mali. I want to see the world! So who knows where I'll go next!
--- I like drama. Used to act a lot when in high school, but didn't have the time once I hit university. I have been in about 15 or more local plays and directed and did other technical things in others.
--- I like camping. I was part of the Girl Guides of Canada for about 13 years, really miss those days and those camping trips. It was amazing! I go camping now when I get a chance, which isn't too often.
--- I like movies. I own quite a few. Mostly musicals, foreign films, drama, and of course childrens movies.
--- And finally, I have started spending a lot of time playing on the computer, working on this page you are reading!
