ASTROLOGY
Even today, the Mayans culture holds great mysteries. Who were the Mayas and where did they come from? What was the reason for their great works? Why did they abandon their civilization at its peak? Where did they go and why?
There are many theories to explain these questions. However, there is no doubt that the Mayas were one of the greatest civilizations to flourish in the history of the planet earth.
The Mayas were a religious people. They built impressive pyramids to pay homage to their gods, and created their own style of architecture, sculpture, painting and hieroglyphics. They discovered astronomical and mathematical laws, and were able to calculate the length of the earth's orbit around the sun with an accuracy of a thousandth of a decimal point, according to modern calculations. This is even more surprising when we consider that this was all done without the aid of precision instruments; likewise they could also predict when eclipses were to occur.
We cannot help being surprised at the coincidences between the Mayan and the Hindu cultures. For example, "maya" is the Hindu philosophical term for "Origin of the World" and "World of Illusion" in Sanskrit, the word means"Mind", "Magic", and it is also the name of Buddha's mother.
The advanced civilization created the Haab, or solar cycle of the earth for two reasons: To keep track of time and as a means of cosmic (time-space) transportation This calendar is comprised of 360 plus 5 days, making a total of 365. The Haab is divided into 18 months of 20 days. There is a nineteenth month named Vayeb, which includes the remaining five days from July 21 to 25.
The Mayas recognized the relation between humankind and the universe, and explained the influence of the heavenly bodies in a unique way, giving each month of their calendar special meaning. There are different paths to the discovery of the true meaning of its symbolism, and here we present one interpretation.
