Notes:
Johnny died in a drowning accident in Detroit, Michigan. When his mother (Millie) received the telegram of Johnny's death, Millie was devastated. Millie gathered her daughter Myrtle (grandma), son Clarence and hired a driver and a car and drove to Detroit to bring Johnny home. Grandma remembers arriving in Detroit in the middle of the night. Millie, Clarence and grandma walked into the parlor where Johnny was. Grandma said, " Johnny was stretched out on a table dress in a suit and tie." Millie "lost all strength" when they saw Johnny lying on the table. They loaded Johnny into the car and drove all the way back to Chattanooga. Their minister lived a few door down and across the street from grandma's house. When they arrived home, the minister took the drapes off his own windows in his house and put the drapes on grandma and Millies' three windows in the front room so Johnny could lay in peace until he was buried. This was relayed to me by Grandma Lowery at the Pekin Hospital on 16 February 2008. Grandma lived on Dodge Street at the time of the incident. Paul lived on the corner of Dodge and their pastor lived across the street from Grandma.
