Chapter 14: Dancing Queen
Heidi and I ushered the Hanson boys and their dad into a cab, and we hopped the train to Heidi's house. She's way skinnier than I am, but I was able to construct a pretty cute outfit. It was this little black top that basically only covered my chest with this black long-sleeved crochet mesh shirt, and a pair of fake snakeskin pants (I has bought her those pants for her birthday... they weren't very "Heidi," but she loved them). Heidi wore the cutest black sparkly capri pants and a black tank top. Needless to say, we were stylin'.
Anyway, so I called my dad to tell him where I'd be. Then, as I'd hoped, Tay called Heidi's house (I'd given him the number)and said their father would allow them to go if Matt, Jay,and Scott came, too. Heidi and I were excited as we hailed a cab to return to the hotel.
"You get to meet Matt... I went dancing with him the other day... he thinks Taylor likes me."
"Maybe he does."
"You think so?"
"I dunno, I just met the kid," she laughed.
"True," I laughed.
"Do you like him?"
"I dunno..." I blushed. There was a silence for a few minutes.
Changing he subject with a knowing smile, she said, "So where do you want to go dancing?"
"I dunno."
"Someone told me they have this cute little all-ages club under that cafe we went to last year with Jan."
"Awesome," I smiled as we exited the cab and shivered our way into the hotel. Taking the elevator, I introduced Heidi to Vince.
"It's us," I said when we knocked on the Hanson's hotel door. Surprisingly, Matt opened the door.
"Hey, sexy, who's your friend?" Matt leaned on the door.
I rolled my eyes, but smiled,"Heidi, this is Matt. Matt this is Heidi." They shook hands.
"So where do you have us going?" he asked.
"Some cafe thing."
"Sounds like a blast," he sais sarcastically.
"With us, babe, it will be," I smirked, pushing past him into the hotel room. "Are you guys ready or what?"
"Sexy pants, Robinson," Tay said tying his boots.
"Are you making fun of me?" I asked, putting my hands on my hips.
"No, he's flrting with you," Zac teased.
"Don't you think my pants are sexy?" I asked him, pouting like a model.
"Damn!" he laughed, "They make me want to smack your-"
"Zac!" I jumped away from his hand which was dangerously close to my butt. "You molester!"
"Can we go now?" Ike laughed.
"Yea, let's go," I said, hiding from Zac behind Heidi.
We arrived at the little club to find very few people there. Other than about four kids and the d.j., we were alone. "Let's go request some music," I pulled Taylor with me to the d.j. "Do you have Fatboy Slim?" I called over the music.
The d.j. shook his head.
"Okay... Prodigy?"
The man shook his head again as he pressed some buttons.
"Umm... 'Together Again' by Janet Jackson?"
Flipping through some cds, the d.j. shook his head again.
"What do you have then? How about Bob Marley?"
Finally the guy nodded, and Tay and I returned to everyone. "no Woman No Cry" came on. "What kind of music is there?" Heidi asked.
"None," I laughed.
We got some sodas and water from the little bar while the d.j. played a lot of un-danceable songs. Finally, I whined, "You guys, I wanna dance."
"Then go," Zac waved me away.
"All by myself?"
"If the d.j. would play a decent song, I'd go with you," Matt offered.
Matt lead my by the hand over to the d.j. booth. "Hey man, can you play us some dancing music?"
The d.j. nodded and started sifting through cds.
"I don't believe that!" I laughed, hitting Matt's arm, "He wouldn't even listen to me."
Matt laughed, pulling me onto the dance floor as "Jelllyhead" by Crush came on. All the rest of our people came out onto the floor to dance, and those other four kids, too. I guess the d.j. got the point, because he played a bunch of other cool songs including like, "Fired Up," and "Love and Devotion." But then, he played "Road House Blues" by the Doors. That's a great song, but not for dancing. Heidi and I went to the bathroom.
"So what do you think of my buddies?" I asked, looking in the mirror.
"I think Matt likes you."
"No," I laughed.
"Yes."
"You think?"
"Uh huh."
Giggling, we went back to the boys. Ike spoke up, "Zac tried to get the guy to play some good music, but instead he played a Spanish rendition of an Elvis song."
"That's not exactly what I had in mind," Zac laughed.
I sighed as "No Woman No Cry" came on again. "Let's bounce."
"What?" Tay laughed.
"Let's go somewhere else."
"Where though?" Scott asked.
"There's this place where everyone goes downtown..." Heidi spoke up.
"Great!" I said as I lead everyone out. There were more people at the little place, like fifteen or twenty. I could tell as soon as we walked in it would be better... there were colored lights blaring everywhere, and techno was playing. As soon as we dropped out coats off in some corner, we moved out on the dance floor. "Block Rockin' Beats" by the Chemical Brothers, the "Fantasy" remix by Maraih Carey, and "The Boy is Mine" blared out as we danced nonstop.
After a bit, Ike and Tay and people went up to request music while Heidi and I danced. "Too Close" by Next came on. "Hell yes!" I cheered. "Who requested this?"
"Me," Tay said.
"I love this song," I smiled.
"I'm aware..."
I danced with everyone, even people I didn't know. By eleven thirty, I was about to fall over. "What time are we supposed to be home?" I asked Ike.
"Midnight."
"You realize we have to leave now..."
"Why?"
"It will take at least a half an hour to get back to the hotel..." I said.
"We'd better bounce then," Tay teased.
"Why do you always make fun of me?" I frowned as I pulled on my coat.
"Because I can..."
"Are you guys going to come bak to the hotel?" Zac wondered.
"Heid?"
"Sure," she smiled.
"Yes, Zac, we are."
Matt slung his arm around my shoulder, "We can have a good time there..."
"Umm... yea," I took his arm off my shoulder as I hopped into a cab with Heidi, Tay, and Ike (everyone else took another cab).
"See what I said about Matt?" Heidi whispered.
"You don't have to whisper," I shrugged.
"You guys," I spoke to Ike and Tay, "you don't think Matt likes me, right?"
"He was kind of all over you," Ike pointed out.
"He wasn't all over me..."
"Close enough..." Tay squeezed into the cab, and we were on our way.
"Well didn't you ask him out?" Ike asked.
"Well, yea, but..."
"He probably thinks you like him," Heidi said.
"I heard him talking to Jay the other day and he said he was going to ask you out," Ike informed.
"Aw man," I whined.
"Let's play truth or dare," Zac bounced on the bed.,
"No," Heidi shook her head.
"Strip poker!" Matt laughed.
"Not a chance," I exclaimed. "Dude, I'm tired..."
"We should probably go to sleep anyway," Tay agreed. "There's a radio interview tomorrow."
Scott wheeled in the extra cot from their room for Heidi, and he and Jay and Matt went into their room. Someone (not me, I swear) planned it so that Taylor and I would share the big bed. "Looks like Tay and I get to share," I sang.
"Goodie," Tay said sarcastically.
"Hey, you should be excited. Zac would kill to sleep next to me. Right, Zacky?"
"Whatever. Leae me alone," he rolled over and covered his head into a pillow.
"See?" I laughed. Tay ignored me and crawled into bed. "Come on, man," I shoved him, "I'm not tired any more."
"How come I have to share a bed with her?"
"I guess you're just lucky."
Ignoring me, Tay flicked the light off. I guess I fell asleep, because I woke up the next morning to Heidi whispering my name. "Tay, I have to go home to help my dad decorate the Christmas tree. I'll call you."
"Okay."
Heidi left. I fell asleep again, but only for like, a half an hour. "Tay?" I asked when I couldn't sleep any more.
"What?" he mumbled. I'd woken him up.
"Do you think I shgould pierce my tongue?"
"What?!"
"My tongue..."
"Robinson, I really don't care what you do to your tongue..."
"Yea, but-"
"You are so annoying!"
"What?"
"I'm sleeping... go back to bed."
"But it's Christmas Eve!" I bounced on the bed.
"You woke me up," Tay sat up.
"I should go home," I realized, "I have to get everything ready!" I hopped out of the bed to gather my stuff.
"Call us when you want to hang out."
"When they wake up, tell your brothers I say Merry Christmas!"
