WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
Hey all you REwind fans, this’ll be the first of many articles brought to you weekly on TEWSday here on REwind Online. I’ll be talking about anything and everything that may concern the amateur movie world. Some weeks it may be hints, tips or tricks Erik and I may have come up with, and other weeks it may be a rant about something that’s pissing me off in the movie world….and some weeks a combination of both.
This week’s question is…. Where do we go from here? Now, you’re probably asking yourself what that means, and it will mean a different thing to each person, but to me, it means after the three projects TEWS is working on…what lies beyond that? Shooting for "Three on a Match" is going to wrap soon, and it’ll probably be edited by mid-August, then production for "For All Time" starts, hopefully wrapping by mid-September-early October, and in between that we have the documentary about a musician and his "new" instrument….but after that, then what? We’re really pushing our boundaries here with a psychological thriller in TOAM, and an "epic" war film with FAT…..but after that… where does the next idea come from?
Ideas for TEWS movies have always seemed to be a spur of the moment thing….just Erik and I sitting down talking movies, when the phrase inevitably hits: "You know what would make a great movie…" More often than not it’s a crappy idea, but once in a while something magical happens and the idea just clicks. The problem is that since the idea and script for "For All Time" there hasn’t been any "clicking" since then. Oh, we’ve tried to start the engine of the idea train, only to find out that it needs major overhaul. Oh whatever will come next???
Hmm… well, we’ve TALKED about an "Of Fortune and Glory" sequel, but that would ruin some of the "magic" of the ending…wondering what happens next. We’ve also discussed a prequel to OFAG (where we could see Jack Clark as a child no doubt) but have shied away from that too. No, our next idea will have to be an original one, and one that would definitely be a TEWS movie, but what? When you finish a movie, where does the next idea come from? Sure if you’re like Foo, there’s already eighteen other movies in production already…I’m talking about the NORMAL groups (g). I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what comes up…
Maybe I need to sit in a mall watching people, wondering what their story is and take something from that. Or maybe I should read more books, and get an idea from there. Heck, things are going so well with our play adaptation in "Three on a Match" that maybe I’ll try adapting a play….who knows? Hey, maybe I’ll start reading the newspaper and make up a story from that. You know what they say…sometimes the news is stranger than fiction. It’s just hard thinking that in what….three months all the ideas will be used up, and then what?
Hmmm… I guess I could always start work on a "2 Ways…" remake….hehehe…
