~~~~~ Before the Day Begins ~~~~~
Just for Today, Lord
I will live through the next 12 hours
and not try to tackle all of life's problems at once.
I will improve my mind. I will learn something useful.
I will learn something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
I will be agreeable.
I will look my best, speak in a well modulated voice,
be courteous and considerate.
I will not find fault with my friend, relative, or colleague.
I will not try to change or improve anyone
but myself.
I will have a program. I might not follow it exactly
but I will have it.
I will save myself from two enemies ~~ hurry and indecision.
I will do a good turn and keep it secret.
If anyone finds out, it won't count.
I will do two things I don't want to do, just for the exercise.
I will believe in myself.
I will give my best to the world
and feel confident that the world will give its best to me.
I love the early morning hour.
The hour before the world has risen to hustle off towards the end of another busy day.
The hour in which you can hear the birds not yet from their nests
calling a sleepy good morning to their neighbours.
The hour when the stars have yet to fade entirely
and the sun has yet to burst forth in all its glory.
I love the twinkle of the dew caught in the rising sun.
The smell of a new day.
It's in that hour I feel closest to God and all the wonders of nature,
before radios and televisions shatter the tranquility of a new day.
It's the hour full of wonder and magical occurances.
It's the hour of the most hope.
And if you listen with your heart,
truly listen,
you may even hear the faint rustle of wings unseen
going about their business.
Come away, Oh Human Child!
To the water and wild
With a faery, hand in hand
For the world's more full of weeping
Than you can understand.
~ William Butler Yeats ~
"When the first baby laughed for the first time,
the laugh broke into a thousand pieces
and they all went skipping about,
and that was the beginning of fairies."
~ Sir James M. Barrie, Peter Pan ~
Come faeries, take me out of this dull world,
for I would ride with you upon the wind
and dance upon the mountains like a flame."
~ W.B. Yeats ~
