Angel's Watching Over Me

By Coolcat

Authors note: The title, Angel's Watching Over Me, was inspired by a book by Luther McDaniel. It's about a girl who gets cancer and could die. This takes place around Christmas and it has sorta a religious theme.

Oz heart pounded as he ran down the hall next to Willow on a stretcher. Next to him the nurses and doctors talked in medical Gibberish. All Oz could do was stare at Willow's lifeless form and pray she would live.

"How could this happen," his mind screamed, "We were just hunting vampires how would I know the fire escape would fall on her?"

It was a miracle she survived. Oz started down upon her face. Her face was the thing that had been damaged the least. She has a cut near her eye and a bump on her back of her head.

"Willow come on wake up," he said.

"I'm sorry sir you'll have to wait here in the lobby," a nurse said.

Oz didn't say anything he just stared at Willow as they took her away.

"Sir?" The nurse said.

"Please," Oz said, "don't let Willow die."

The nurse looked into Oz's worried sad eyes.

"We'll try our best sir," she said and walked away.

Oz watched her run after Willow and he slumped down into a chair. He laid his head back against the wall behind it and closed his eyes.

"Please god," he said, "don't let her die."

After a few minutes he picked up the pay phone and called Buffy. The phone rang twice and Mrs. Summers picked up the phone.

"Hello," she said.

"Hi," Oz said, "can I speak to Buffy."

"Oh sure," Buffy's mom said in her usual cherry tone, "may I ask who's calling."

"Oz," he said.

He heard Joyce call for Buffy. Running footsteps and Joyce handing Buffy the phone.

"Hey Oz," she said.

"Listen Willow's in the hospital," Oz said, "she's hurt."

"What!" Buffy gasped.

"We where out slaying and a fire escape fell on her," Oz said his voice wavering a little.

"Oh my god," she said, "is she okay."

"I don't know," Oz said, "can you call everyone else."

"Yeah sure Oz," Buffy said, "did you call her parents?"

"There out on a vacation," Oz said.

"I'll be there in a half hour."

"Thanks," Oz said and hung up the phone. He then rubbed his temples and sat down on a chair.

"Where am I," Willow thought, "why can't I open my eyes. I can't move."

"Poor girl," she heard a female voice say, "she probably won't make it."

"Won't make it!" Willow thought, "what dose she mean!"

"I know," a male voce said, "we should go talk to her family."

"There not here they're on vacation," the woman said.

"Really?" He said, "have you tried to contact them."

"One of our nurses are trying now," he said, "I guess I'll go tell the boy."

"The boy?" Willow thought, "Oz?"

"Oh be gentle with him," the woman said, "he's very upset."

"Of course," the man said.

Willow heard footsteps as they left the room.

"Where am I," Willow thought.

"Excuse me," the doctor said to Oz.

Oz stood up. So did Buffy, Giles, and Xander who had came right after Oz called.

"Your friend," he said, "she has fractured ribs and a broken leg. That is all repairable."

Oz seemed to relax a little at that.

"But she did bump her head," he said, "and this well she might not survive cause of this."

"What!" Buffy cried.

Oz stared at the ground.

"We're trying to locate her parents," he said, "you all can go into see her now."

They where silent for a moment. Oz sat down on his chair letting the information sink in.

"I'll go," Xander offered.

The doctor nodded and leaded Xander out to Willow's room.

"Oz," Buffy asked, "are you okay."

He shook his head. Buffy sat down next to him.

"She's gonna be okay," Buffy said.

Oz didn't say a thing.

Xander walked into Willow's room. She lay on the bed. She looked as if she was sleeping. The doctor left Xander and Xander sat down next to her.

"Willow," he said, "I'd never think to see you here again."

"Xander?" Willow thought, "is that you?"

"I bet you thought so also," Xander said, "Oz is pretty shook up about it. He could barely speak. You can't leave me Will. We're best friends. Remember when we where little and I stole you Barbie."

"I remember that I was so mad at you," Willow thought.

"That reminds me of the time when Cordy was mean to you and I got really mad at her," Xander said, "I dumped sand on her."

Xander went threw every memory of their early childhood and life at Elementary school. He then went through Middle school and Early high school.

"I remember the last time you where like this," Xander said, " I mean a big mistake of telling you I loved you."

"You did!" Willow thought, "oh no what will Oz think."

"The truth is I do love you Willow," Xander said, "as a friend I mean and I couldn't survive without you," tears came to his eyes and he started to cry, "you're the best friend I ever had."

"Don't cry Xander," Willow thought.

"I mean you helped me get over Jesse and learning about the whole Vampire thing. You're the Vemla of the Scooby gang. And I'm just Shaggy. There would be no slayerette's without you. So I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart to please wake up. If not for me for Oz because he is really upset. Just don't leave us Willow."

There was a soft knock at the door.

"Ah come in," Xander said wiping tears from his eyes.

The doctor opened the door.

"Your time is up," he said.

"Okay," Xander said, "getting up."

As he walked out of the room he looked at Willow one last time and steeped out of the room.

"I'll go next," Buffy said and walked up to the doctor. He led her down the hall towards Willow's room.

As she walked in Willow's room Willow heard the click of her boots on the floor.

"Buffy," she thought.

"Willow," Buffy said as the doctor shut the door, "It's me Buffy. I just thought you'd like to know that your parents aren't here yet but the nurses have got a hold of them and they're coming."

"My parents?" Willow thought, "they are coming! I thought they forgot about me."

"Well," Buffy said, "I'm not to good on big emotional things but I just wanna say that I-T really appreciate what you have done for me."

"What do you mean?" Willow thought.

"Well when I first came to Sunnydale I hated myself and my calling and who I was," Buffy said. "People here where nice but most guys tend to be with girls with my figure."

Willow silently laughed in her mind.

"Then I met you," she said, "you didn't care where I came from who my friends where and you still wanted to be my friend when you found out who I was, I mean being a vampire slayer and all."

There was a moment of silence in the room.

"Well I just wanted to thank you," Buffy said, "your computer hacking and research skills got us out of a jam multiple times. You never thought of yourself." With this Buffy started to cry, "you thought of others before you no matter what."

"Oh no everyone's crying," Willow thought, "am I really going to die?"

"You brought me out of depression so many times," Buffy said sniffling, "remember after graduation when I was sad about Angel. I called you up balled my eyes out. The next day you came over to my house with rented comedy movies."

"Yeah any friend would have done that," Willow thought.

"Remember on Halloween when I turned into a noble woman and I lost my slaying powers," Buffy said, "you helped me then even though you where a ghost. In that outfit also. I'm sure Oz would have appreciate you in that thing."

Once again Willow silently laughed in her mind.

Buffy went on time after time telling of hellmouth and guy problems that they faced through together.

"Basically what I'm trying to say is if you passed on," Buffy said crying once again, "I wouldn't have anyone to talk to about guy problems and I wouldn't have someone to help me on the hellmouth problems and I would lose the best friend I could ever dream of. I already said goodbye to someone I cared about a lot I can't face another Willow, especially not you."

Xander looked over at Oz he sat looking at the ground and swallowed hard.

"Oz," Xander said, "I'm really sorry. I know this must be hard for you."

He nodded. A moment of silence filled the room.

"I couldn't live without her," Oz said, "Before I started to date Willow I was a terrible guy because of that I moved to Sunnydale in hope to be a better person. I could of never have done that without her."

"Oz man she's gonna be okay," he said.

"I hope so," Oz said.

With that Buffy walked into the room with a tear stained face.

"It's your turn Oz," she said.

Oz stood up and walked over to the room Willow was in he shut the door and sat buy her bed.

"Hey Willow," he said.

"Oz!" Willow thought

"I really don't know what to say," he said, "but I want to tell you something."

He reached over to Willow and held on to her hand gently.

"Before I came to Sunnydale," he said, "I was dating this girl named Tia. Tia was a terrible person but she convinced me to stay with her. The truth is I know this sounds shallow but I was only in it for the sex."

"This doesn't sound like Oz," Willow thought.

"I got arrested in that town for robbing a store when I was drunk," he said, "after that I came to Sunnydale feeling very guilty. I never talked about Tia or anything about my old life. I sorta clamed up."

"That's so sad," Willow thought.

"I was falling into depression," Oz said, "Devon was the only one who noticed he seemed to think I needed a girl. Which was partly true and then I saw you when I was playing at the bronze. You where wearing a Eskimo costume."

"I remember that," Willow thought, "I was sweating like a pig."

"Well for some reason that gave me a confidence boost and I felt the need to meet you," Oz said, "I saw you on Halloween in that outfit."

"Oh no," Willow thought embarrassed. She was mentally blushing.

"Well I did end up meeting you in that career thing," he said, "and I after we started going out I didn't fell so sad. I felt like my life was finally coming together. Then I became a werewolf and all that was destroyed. I thought you wouldn't like me after that."

"I could never not love you," Willow thought, "I wish I could tell you that."

"You accepted that," Oz said, "and you kissed me. That pretty much sealed our relationship. Everything was great except for the whole Xander thing. But after that we where together like peas in a pod and I slept with you. It was a whole lot different then with Tia. With you I-I couldn't explain it. It was perfect."

Tears started rolling down Oz's face.

"If you leave me here," he said, "I don't know what I would do. I have never felt this way about anyone before. I love you Willow more than anyone else in the world. Please I'm begging you don't leave me."

Oz let the tears run freely. He looked to Willow. Was that a tear on her cheek?

Willow's grip tightened on Oz's hand.

"Willow," Oz said.

"Oz," Willow said opening her eyes, "I love you too."

"Willow your okay," Oz cried.

"What happened to me," Willow said.

"You had a fire escape fall on you," Oz said.

"That would explain why I hurt so much," Willow said.

Oz kissed her softly on the forehead. Bringing his face down to her level.

"It doesn't hurt that much any more," she said giving off a small smile.

Oz kissed her softly.

"Should we tell the doctor I'm awake," Willow said.

"Yeah," Oz said standing up and pressing the call button.

"Do I get Jell-O?" Willow said with a smile.

"I didn't get to that quite yet," Oz said.

"That's okay," Willow said, "Oz you're my Guardian Angel you know that?"

Oz smiled and before he had time to respond a nurse rushed in the room.
