In The Shade

Oz rocked gently on the balls of his feet. His hand was poised over the doorbell but he did not ring it. Images of his girlfriend's father eyeing him again flashed through his mind. 'My Willow is too good for a musician.' he had mumbled.

Sure, he didn't know whether or not her parents were even in the house, but... Before he had time to rationalize he rang the doorbell. She was worth the risk.

The door flung open and he couldn't help but smile. Willow was standing there, her hair up in a messy bun on top of her head, wearing obviously old clothes and looking incredibly frazzled.

"Bad time?" He asked smugly

"Ha, ha, ha." She smiled and let him in. "I just finished my chores. Mom made me clean the kitchen floor."

"So you're finished then?"

She nodded. "But I'm too tired to do anything besides lie down in the shade and probably die."

"We wouldn't want that."

Willow smiled at him again. "Lemme go change, I have an idea."

Oz nodded at watched his girlfriend retreat up the stairs to her bedroom. He smiled when he remembered the last time he had been in her bedroom... < No, she's tired, stop thinking that. > he chastised himself. In the 5 days since graduation not a single solitary vampire, demon, or other creature of the night had come near Sunnydale. Buffy was begining to get so frustrated she almost killed Giles in a sparring match.

Shaking his head out of the clouds as Willow came back downstairs she took his hand and let him out the back door and to a tree near the end of her backyard, a hammock was suspended between it and the fence.

"I said I wanted to lay in the shade." She grinned pulling him down on the hammock and cuddling beside him.

"I can live with that." he smiled, nuzzling her hair slightly.

She rested her head on his chest simply content to being in his company. "You make a nice pillow." she mumbled against him. Oz simply smiled and tightened his arms around her. "I can get used to this." She said quietly, almost embarassed. "I mean, sleeping with you. I mean.... having you hold me in your arms... not that you didn't before... it's just... nicer now... and..." she sighed "I hate when I do that."

"I love when you do that." He kissed her hair. "And I could hold you in my arms forever."

"That'd be nice." She smiled and felt her eyes drooping. "Oz?"

"Yeah baby?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."
