Stooping to Suspicions

Willow sat there thinking as she hung in Oz’s comforting arms. They sat on a bench in the park just looking at the crescent moon. It was a small silver sliver (Author’s Note- try saying that five times fast.) in a vast ocean of deep blue clouds. Every minute or so a cloud would pass over the moon leaving it’s glorious light to fade, but recover swiftly as the cloud moved on. It was a chilly breezy night, and Willow wanted nothing more than to stay like she was in those warm arms sitting on the old, but comfortable bench. She smiled pleased with the night and the wonderful dinner he’d taken her to just a half-hour ago. They had shared a platter of very pricey shrimp. One would of thought they were caught from a royal pond and raised and tended for every second of their short lives until they were ready to be cooked and placed on a golden platter. Or at least that was what the price suggested. Willow didn’t think to how he’d gotten the money. It was a very nice restaurant and she wasn’t just going to ask. She trusted him.

Another cold breeze came and this time she snuggled closer to him. He stretched to a position where he could take his jacket off and place it over her shoulders. She smiled thankfully and they resumed to their snuggle position.

Hating to break the moment Willow sighed. It was getting very cold and she knew she’d better get home. Oz had thought it would have been romantic to walk, and it was, but she didn’t want to be out at late night when she’d get attacked by some vampire. “It’s getting cold Oz. Maybe we should head home.” She tried to explain.

Oz listened and agreed with a nod as they both stood. They joined hands as they slowly started for the sidewalk. Oz thought of how she must be wearing a new perfume. It smelled of strong jasmine and was the perfect scent for Willow. She wore a beautiful light blue dress with a little sweater over it that really gave her red locks a flaming shine. Her pale toned skin was flawless. The night was perfect.

They eventually got to Willow’s house, and as they walked up the driveway and to her front door step their grip tightened. Willow didn’t want to leave him. She stepped up to her door and Oz smiled.

“Thank you for a really great night.” Willow smiled wishing he’d kiss her. It was something she’d wanted all night. She didn’t want just a peck on the cheek, but a real kiss.

“No problem.” He said in a cool tone as he stepped up to her door and smiled into her eyes. She was suddenly flooded with satisfaction and happiness that the night was great success. She turned to go inside and took the key hidden under a rock by the door mat. She started to fiddle with the lock and noticed that Oz hadn’t turned to go yet. She turned forgetting about the lock and key and looked to oz.

“Um…Willow…”He didn’t say anymore. He stepped in close to her and placed his hands on her waist as he leaned over a bit and placed his lips on hers for a gentle kiss. Willow closed her eyes with the kiss placing her hands on his shoulders. When the kiss was over he smiled. "Goodnight Willow.” He said and kissed her on the cheek. He then turned and walked off down the driveway and into the darkness of then night. She stood there on the doorstep until watching where he had disappeared into the night.

“Will? Is that you? It’s 11:45 Willow Rosenburg!” scowled a familiar voice as she finally turned and swung open the door.

“Yeah, it’s me Mom…” She yelled back as she locked the door behind her. No telling what demons would walk through their door in 15 minutes at Midnight, the Witching Hour.

“You were at that book club for a long time…something tells me you were elsewhere.” Her mom spoke as she came down the stairs still dressed in all her normal clothes. She got a cup of coffee that was sitting on the cup table by the sofa. She then sat down looking up to Willow.

“We were…uh…studying about-um…Space!” She lied through her teeth as she made up a reason for her absence.

“Space? What about it?” Her mom was after all her mom and knew she was lying. This was something Willow…sucked at.

“Space…Tele…stromphosis. It’s the way-“ Willow started to explain this new word she made up.

“Oh yes, the study of atoms of the little green men on Jupiter’s rings. Very interesting isn’t it? Come on Will, what were* you doing that you can’t tell me about?” Her mom asked as she stood up.

“Green light!” Willow said suddenly. Buffy turned and looked surprised the light was evil enough to change when she wasn't looking and pressing the gas pedal they sped off.

“Thank you Miss Backseat Driver.” Buffy mumbled as she realized all the cars were beeping at her* and not the guy in the red Ferrari. The large Jeep jerked little bit by little bit as it made it’s way down the road somehow finding a way to be in the middle of the two lanes. There were loud beeps as some girl pulled up next to the Jeep and shouted out the window something they couldn’t hear. Buffy gave them a look and beeped as they speed down about 15 miles over the speed limit passing people left and right.

“Telestromphosis could* be something real…I mean it does sound complicated-stop sign Buffy!” Willow stopped explaining last night and turned her attention to the road. She held on to her seat belt as Buffy slammed on the brakes, and the large Jeep came to a sudden halt.

“Uh…I saw that…” Buffy nodded in a convincing like way. “So did he kiss you, or just kiss you?” Buffy said as she took her eyes off the road and looked to Willow for an answer.

“Well I thought he was just going to kiss me, but he really kissed me kissed me. And it was okay, not that it was bad, but not best because I’ve never had a best kiss. And then there’s the fact that it was the best cause it was my first, only kiss, but really my second kiss cause you know Xander and it was the best at it’s time, but now that I have an Oz kiss things are different…but it was the best kiss I’m not trying to dis him! Because it was really good…am I babbling again?” Willow’s face was worried about her kisses and which one was good. She didn’t want to be judgmental. But on the other hand she didn’t want to just forget about it all. It was all too important

“There!” Buffy chirped. As they pulled into a couple of the parking spaces. Buffy managed to somehow actually take up only two parking spaces instead of the usual four. At least for once they wouldn’t get too many parking tickets.

Willow strode into to the library placing four heavy books on the hard wood counter. She headed around the corner and smiled to see that Oz wasn’t in the room. She quickly spotted Buffy and Giles among the stacks.

“Anything new like daemons or evil plots I should know about?” she said awkwardly happy not to be worrying about Oz. She had done some thinking about how he had afforded their dinner last night and the beautiful red coral necklace she wore around her pale flawless neck. She had come to the decision that he wasn’t Richie Rich. She had been watching way* too many Disney movies with the kids she had baby sat last week.

“Just the normal possessed blood thirsty vampires planning to take over the human race.” Buffy said in a very tired tone. “Anything new with you?”

Willow’s heart raced. < How did she know I was suspicious of him? I didn’t give anything away… >. “What’re you talking about Buffy? You know I’d never* hide anything from you. What made you think that? And Giles why are you staring at me like that? I didn’t do anything. Remember me, Old Reliable?” She said all too fast as she thought she was being pressured into saying her thoughts.

“Uh…Willow? Oh dear…” Giles frowned as Willow stood there. He could feel her heart thumping swiftly as she thought this was a way of intervention. This couldn’t be good. Buffy just sort of kept staring at her until Will finally broke the silence.

“I’m going to go…catch up on my daemon reading” Willow looked for a reason to leave them and pointed a thumb over her shoulder as she noticed she’d just given away that she’d been hiding something. She was way too jumpy. She turned and ran off behind a flimsy rack.

She sighs and sank to the ground closing her eyes in thought. She was worried about how Oz had gotten all this money. It was just over night and he was buying her gifts and taking her to pricey places to eat. She played with the buckle on her overall straps and opened her eyes. She screamed as she looked and saw Xander standing in front of her just a few feet away staring at her.

“I’m guessing…guy trouble?” He said as he noticed he had her full attention. Willow was still jumpy and this definitely proved this true.

“Xander! What are you doing sneaking up on me?” Willow accused. She couldn’t believe she was talking to him about Oz. Or rather that she was going to talk to him.

“I told you he was trouble Will.” Xander said in a matter of the fact kind of way. He was trying to say ‘I told you so’ politely.

“All of a sudden Oz has got all this money and is buying me expensive stuff.” She said point to the string of red beads. “And is taking me to Price Palace.

“Maybe he’s selling cocaine or weed. And maybe he’s doing drugs himself. You never can tell with guys like him.” Xander joked. He turned to walk off as Willow sat there pondering the thought. It did make sense. What if that was what was going on? She looked to Xander in disbelief.

“Oh, and Will. Maybe you should stalk him and follow him around all day to make sure he’s not doing the bad stuff. And buy the way. Ask him if he has any snuff. And if he’s sold out tell him I’ll take genuine marijuana.” He laughed at his thought and walked off to join Giles and Buffy.

There was only one way to find out the truth. Tomorrow he was having a practice for his next gig. She would sneak in and hide in his van or hide behind some of the boxes that were in the garage. But what if he caught her. She was stooping to suspicions. But she had to find out. This was the one and only chance. She didn’t want to loose Oz.
