How It All Really Started
It was 1992 and there was a big casting call in Orlando. Lou Pearlman picked
5 boys to become The Backstreet Boys. They were "Nicky" Carter, AJ McLean,
Howie Dorough, and 2 other boys*. They had a big audition in Sea World. Those
"nameless" 2 boys* quit, and they still had to do the audition. They found Kevin
Richardson working in Disney World. They were still short 1 boy... and the
audition was soon. Kevin remembered his cousin, Brian Littrell, back in
Kentucky who loved to sing. Brian was in school when he got the call from Kevin
that would change his life. He hadn't heard from Kevin in a while, so he knew
it had to be big. Kevin asked him to fly to Orlando and audition to be in The
Backstreet Boys. So Brian accepted and flew to Orlando. He actually auditioned
in the stands at Sea World before their big audition. He was in, and The
Backstreet Boys, as we know them today, were born.
They got the Sea World audition, then they auditioned for Star Search. Star
Search loved them, but they decided not to be on the show because if they lost,
they thought it might hurt their career. But the talent agent at Star Search
loved them so much, they got a record contract. They released, "We've Got It
Goin' On" in Orlando, but it went no where. The locals loved it, but luckily
they also released it in Europe. Europe was crazy about them, so they started
their careers there. The Backstreet Boys were somebody. And that, my friends,
is how it all really started.
* One of those two "nameless" boys has been found out! His name is Pheonix Stone. He is starting a solo career (pop, no doubt), but he says that he doesn't want their success to have anything to do with his. Good or bad.
You might not have known, but Kevin and Brian originally weren't in the BSB.
Here's how it all really started. The truth.
