ENROLLMENT

Requirements for Eastern Band of Cherokee enrollment:

One of your linal ancestors must be listed in the Dawes Rolls of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. You can find them sometimes by their Indian name and by their real name. There will be an enrollment number.

You must contain at least 1/18 of Eastern Band of Cherokee blood.

IF THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET ENROLLMENT WILL BE CLOSED TO THAT INDIVIDUAL!

How to find your Cherokee ancestor:

Talk to family members! Talk to the elders in your family! Get as much information as you can! If possible, ask for roll numbers! That is VERY helpful! You may hire a specialist who will track it down for you! I recommend:

  • Mrs. Robin Maney
  • P.O. Box 123
  • Park Hill, Oklahoma
  • 74451
  • One reason you may not be able to track them down through family is because a while back it was considered shameful to have Indian blood by many Europeans and mixed bloods! The mixed bloods claimed white alot of the time! Sad but true. Therefore your family may not want to admit it! That is a reason to go ahead and hire someone. It does cost you though! If your family is not ashamed of it then you might do what I said earlier! You may also want to check Ancestry.com! Any further information, E-mail me!
