Weird Spelling Rules

Back to my main page

This page is dedicated to totally stupid and weird grammer and spelling rules. So don't get at these totally stipid rules and at them instead!

"I before E except after C and when the spelling is double E." Well, that in itself contardicts itself more than once. Take for example the word of which is the subject for this site. Yes weird. That definately does not follow the I after E rule does it? What's the point of spelling it like this after all that hassle of learning that stupid rule? Do you want my theory? No? Well tough, because I'm giving it to you anyway. My theory is that Mr Spelling, or whoever it was that made up all the stupid spelling rules, and how to spell words originally spelt 'weird' in the strange way of 'wceird' which indeed was very weird. But nobody could say the word, so in the end he decided to drop the 'C' but forget to change the spelling. Stange but is it true? Probably not.

Why oh why do some words have pointless silent letters in them? These words know who they are. Words like lamb or two. You don't say the 'B' in lamb or the 'W' in two do you? No. So what's the point? To make life difficult that's how!

Now here's some strange spelling from David Roe. He says,' what is the point of the letter K in words like 'knock' and 'knob', when the pronounced 'nock' and 'nob?'Come to think of it, what is the point of having both a C and a K in knob?
