Nick's band had fallen apart. Nick came back home on surprise, but this time since no one told her, so Lisa was there. She was playing basketball in a tank top and shorts, with her brown hair tied back in a ponytail. Nick looks out the window and wonders who is that pretty girl.
He asks his mom, "So the Cullers have moved away?"
"No honey, why?" says Nick's mom Jane.
"Then whose that Mom?" asks Nick.
"Honey, don't you remember your best friend Lisa Cullers?" Jane asks.
"Oh my gosh, she's so…" Nick trails off.
His mother gave him a knowing look. "Pretty?" she suggests.
"Mooooooooom!" Nick moaned.
But as Nick looked back at the window, he remembers the day they were playing basketball.
"Maybe you should go over there and say hi," says his mom.
He looks at his mom warily and gets up and says,
"Fine!" His mother called after him as he left, "You know you really want to."
Nick thought to himself, "How can mothers be so right."
He came over and yelled out, "Hi Lisa!"
Lisa turned around as she recognizes the voice.
"Nicky," she whispered. Lisa and Nick locked eyes.
"Oh my gosh, is that Nick?" she thinks.
"She's has gotten so pretty after all these years," Nicks think.
Lisa looked away and says, "Long time no see."
"Yeah, I guess. You want to play basketball?" Nick asks sensing she was confused and uncomfortable.
"You're on Nick," Lisa said.
They played along time, until the sky turned orange and purple. Lisa won this time. Nick said, "You're going to get it!" And he started chasing her. Lisa slipped and wildly grabbed for Nick and pulled him down with her. The scene is back as it was eleven years ago, only now they aged and no one interfered. Nick delicately moved a strand of Lisa's hair off her face.
"Lisa," he muttered.
"Yeah," she whispered as she clung onto him.
"Do you think we can have, what we could have had eleven years ago?" Nick softly said.
"Yeah," she whispered. But before she could say anything else, his lips were on hers. They kissed passionately for a very long time.
That is until Nick's seventeen-year-old brother, Aaron came. Aaron yelled out to his brother, "Nick do you always make out with girls in their backyards?"
Lisa's sixteen-year-old brother Joey yelled out, "Aaron, man why did you ruin it. I was about to take a picture for black mail."
As soon as Nick and Lisa heard that they got up.
"You wouldn't dare Joey," Lisa called to her brother.
"Yeah, I would," he muttered, "too bad I couldn't."
Lisa and Nick looked at each other dazed.
"Do you want to go out tomorrow?" he asked.
"Where?"
"Surprise. So do you want to?" he looked at her.
"Sure," she grinned.
"Okay, I'll call you tomorrow." Nick said giving her one of his sweet smile.
"His blue eyes were as blue as the sea," Lisa thought, when Nick embraced her before he left.
Lisa looked at him as he walked home. Lisa thought then and whispered out loud as the wind blew her words from her.
"Love can wait. If we had not we might of not fallen in love." She smiled and turned and walked home.
Nick was thinking the same as he walked on the pathway that winded like a snake to his house. "It was probably good we didn't had that kiss eleven years back. But I know I will always love her. I'm glad we waited to fall in love."
And that is how Lisa and Nick fell in love after all those years. Sometimes love should wait. The rest is up to you to decide. ____________________________________________
