Self Help For Your Nerves
Dr Claire Weekes

I am not one who does much reading & when I do pick up a book it has to have some kind of connection for me to want to read it to the end.

This book is written in a very easy to read manner .. as the author mentions is written as though she were talking directly to the person reading. Written in common terms rather than some professor spouting off medical references that the reader would have to be looking up the meanings of as they tried to read the book.

right from the beginning I found myself saying "yes .. that is me" or "wow .. I know that feeling"

There were also a number of parts where I remember thinking .."no .. I don't know that feeling" or "ok so I am not as 'typical' as I thought".

But .. on a whole .. This book has an awful lot of very interesting information & ideas that .. yes .. have helped me to understand what has been happening to me the past 5 or so years.

There were also a number of places through the book that I remember thinking .. "what rubbish".
Even with the "rubbish" the book has some very valuable information. I believe so long as the reader is prepared to take it ALL in .. think about what they have read .. discard the information that does not relate to their particular circumstances ..

This book is a MUST read

Conquering your Agoraphobia
Mona Woodford MBE

Again .. I have to mention I am not one who does much reading & when I do pick up a book it has to have some kind of connection for me to want to read it to the end.

It is NOT a book I felt compelled to read through to the end. However .. I did manage to push myself to at least "try" read it. I do recall a mention somewhere in the book that the author herself is/was agoraphobic .. personally I question the extent of her agoraphobia .. (my opinion) she seems to be one of those who advocate the "get out and get on with your life" attitude, whilst at one point she does say "Do make your family familiar with the condition as well, in order to prevent the 'pull-yourself-together' attitude".

This had me quite puzzled .. she seemed to swing from one way of thinking to the other and back again all the way through the book, it had me wondering if there were more than one author writing the book but using just one name for sale purposes ??????

She darts all over the place making it rather confusing and hard to read. However .. there are a "few" sections that were of interest and had some pretty good information. It was merely a matter of persevering in the hope the book would take a turn for the better.

At one point the author states - "Most of us understand the description of agoraphobia as 'fear of the fear' but quite often it is not fear in the first place that bugs us but the dreadful nightmare sensation of almost literally 'losing one's mind'".

Ok .. maybe a "dreadful nightmare sensation" is not a fear ???

The section "Pregnancy and Agoraphobia"
From what I understood in this section .. having a new born baby to "show off" will undoubtedly over ride any fear will most likely "cure" you of your agoraphobia. hmmm well .. how about we all go out & get pregnant ?? -=shrug=-
I think I will pass on that one.
In the sections "insomnia" and "fatigue"
I found many very helpful bits of information Pity the rest of the book was not this good
Over all .. I do not feel the book was written in a "readable" fashion, It does contain "some" helpful information, it is just a matter of sifting through the rubbish to find the useful information.

So .. If you can put up with the confused format and misinformation, This book "may" be of some help.

Rating: This book is a "read if you can" kinda book

By the way .. I finally decided I could not continue reading this book after forcing myself to read to page 92.
