Mornings

Oh the nightmare of trying to get out from under that Doona when you know that you have a day of anxiety and nerves ahead of you. Hard to get out of bed isn't it. But you have to, and the trick to starting your day well is to jump straight out of bed before a negative mindset takes hold.

As nice as it is to try to hold on to a few more minutes of rest and relaxation, the reality is that the more we lay there, the more onerous the day becomes. Thought patterns begin to turn to the general worry of what the day will bring, or the despair of what boredom the day will bring. Depression can take hold and we easily lose motivation and spirit.
So what can you do to help get you out of that bed.....remembering that this feeling isn't so much a lazy feeling, but a kind of despair.

First up, before you go to bed each night, make a list of 10 things that you can look forward to the next day. They don't have to be thrilling or dramatic things, just small niceties which will get you stimulated to get out of bed quickly in the morning.

They can be anything from, doing the newspaper crossword, to ringing an old friend.... trying to download a program from the internet...to having a nice relaxing bath.
Write these ten things down on a piece of pretty paper, maybe colour it in, draw pretty flowers all over it, make it a nightly ritual. Then place that list beside your bed and reach for it when you wake....then get out of bed.

Another nice thing to do is to have a nice breakfast tray laid out the night before, all prepared for a nice breakfast in the morning. A lot of agoraphobics have difficulty eating first thing in the morning, but it is necessary to slowly eat a nice healthy breakfast.

A lot of anxiety is attributed to not eating.

It is hard to rouse yourself to start the day, but the day comes anyway. Better to start it quickly and before anxiety sets in and takes hold.

Grab the day yourself before anxiety grabs it for you.

Good morning :)
