Welcome To My 'Interesting Connections' Sub-Page

INTRODUCTION:
We all have said, at one time or another - 'It really is a small world, after all!'
On this web-page you will discover some interesting experiences that I have had over the years, of folks who know friends of mine from distant places, etc. - and/or re-connected with years later - at various times and places.

1. At Centre Street Church in Calgary in the 1990's, I met a fellow named 'Anquist' - turns out that I had gone to school in Irma (all grades from 1-12) with his cousin 'Eileen A'; and her dad 'Carl A' owned the John Deere agency in Irma when I was going to school.
2. At a political rally in Calgary in the summer of 1985, I met a fellow from Viking that I went to church with in the Irma and Viking Alliance while a teenager until 1961. Then, about 2001, I was saddened by his untimely death by cancer. His name is Gerry Lebsack, and at his funeral I realized that I also knew his cousin and her busband at another church here. Furthermore, we also had many mutual friends here in Calgary, including John & Norma Broughton (the former musicians from Calgary Christian Centre).
3. At a Christian Singles Conference in Calgary about 1987, I met a lady who also had gone to school in Irma, as I had. She is a few years younger than I, so I did not know her, but we did have some friends in common.
4. At the Alliance Church where I attend here in Calgary, is a lady named 'Debbie', who worked for Youth For Christ in Wainwright some years ago. We have many friends in common in the Irma-Wainwright area, including the Younkers and the Fords.
5. At Centre Street Church Adult Singles Ministry I met 'Steve Y', who went to Bible School in Regina (C&MA) along with Frank McGeaughey, who was pastor at the Irma Alliance in 1961. Also, Steve's brother 'Harold' attends the same Alliance church as I do now.
6. While visiting some of my friends in the Irma area in January 1997, I discovered that they had adopted a baby boy from Calgary, and I said: 'I know some of the folks at the church here in Calgary where the little tyke had come from'. Let me just say that the little boy (now about 10 years old) is with a very good farm family in the Irma area.
7. 'Phil' is the pastor of a Charismatic church here in Calgary, and he knows some of my '2x2' in-laws from the Hughenden area of eastern Alberta, where he also grew up.
8. In my prayer group at an Alliance Church here in Calgary, is a pastor 'Neill' (now in his late 60's) who was a very good friend and co-minister with Don Sheardown, who had been my pastor in Irma about 1956 to 1958.
9. 'Alma' had been a missionary to Africa - from the 'Avon Glen Gospel Mission' church, when I was about 10 - she is now living in west Calgary, and I re-acquainted with her at her brother's funeral, about 1998. Her name is/ was Alma Hixt and - by some kind of mystery/ coincidence - her name is now 'Alma Sanders'! (no relation to me).
10. In 1986, here in Calgary, I met a new Charismatic Christian friend 'Dave B' who had grown-up in the Stony Plain area west of Edmonton; in fact, in the late 1950's, he actually rode on the same school bus as Bernice & Jeanette Hoogers and Troy Propp (who were some of my 2x2 friends in Edmonton about 1962-63).
11. 'Kent', a young 'accountant' friend here in Calgary in 2002, is a very close friend of my nephew 'Derrick' from Wetaskiwin: - they went to high school together, they played basketball together, they were room-mates while attending college in Southern Alberta, and Kent was also 'best-man' at Derrick's wedding.
12. One Saturday evening about 1996, I went to 'Centre Street Church' here in Calgary for the first time. Later that evening, I got talking to one of the ushers. As our conversation developed, I looked my new friend in the eye, poked him in the chest, and I said to him: - "Your name is 'Brad Bell', and you know my son 'Kim'!" 'Twas quite true - they had met at the Conrich Hall, just east of Calgary, at a 'gospel meeting' a few years earlier.
13. lots more coming real soon!
