basically warezing means to steal
software.
the other day, i noticed that i had
met some people that "refused" to use stolen software.
this message primarily goes out
to people who have this mentality and others that just want to hear my
thoughts :D
a few issues will be dealt with in
no particular order.
software
company revenues
your attitude
getting hired
what company's _really_ care
about
what are you to "most" _companies_
software:
there are lots of software packages
that companies use.
often these "packages" prices range
from $200 and up.
obviously most people can not afford
this.
company revenues:
_most_ companies make the bulk of
there money from selling
to companies in "big packages".
the consumer/retail market
is a very non-trivial market to
break into, let alone
generate profits and hold market
share.
your attitude:
your attitude on software makes
the world of difference.
if you feel that warezing software
is _wrong_ then that' is just to bad.
just think of a situation when you are getting a job.
the interviewer asks you, "do
you have any experience with software"
you: "no, it costs to much".
interviewer: "that's to bad"
(your
not hired!)
next!
interviewer: "do you have any experience
with software"
you: "yes, actually i am really
good at it"
interviewer: "wow that is _really_
good, you will be able to get started
on the work real fast"
the person that was anal about downloading
stolen software didn't realize
that _everybody_ else is doing it.
that leaves him out. he is competing for
the same job space that the "others"
are competing for.
companies:
companies don't care how you acquired
your skills.
what they care about is ,
what companies _really_ care about:
The company that makes the software
"A lot" of people think that by people
stealing software the companies "loose" money.
But some companies (autodesk) have
realized that by allowing people to warez software
they make MORE
money.
we all know
that joe schmoe is not going to go out and pay 3,000 dollars for an animation
package.
but we DO know that a software "company"
will have investors and they will buy an animation package.
the bottom passage is an imaginary
situation for a software company/startup;
dude A: "so, what type of animation
package should we get"
dude B: "well, most of us have been
using 3d studio max for a long time"
dude A: "how did you get it ?"
dude B: "oh, it's all over the net.
just do a search on google"
dude A: "your right, so; you want
to get the 3d studio max packages right"
dude B: "yeah defiantly, that's
all we know"
dude A: "yeah, your right. better
than learning some other package and spending all this down time learning"
this company is not a rare case.
there are tons of companies that are like this and come to these same decisions.
After they had this conversation
dude A, put in an order for 5 animation packages and that's that.
in the end, the software company
WINS and gains MARKET SHARE!
and folks, market share is _very_
important.
i hope you have learned and gained
a better insight on a successful
software model. although, there
are many software models. The internet is changing everything.
Broadband is the future, company
owners are just going to have to adapt there products! or die a slow and
painful death.
As for the model i brought up,
you can apply this to "many" successful
software packages.
one to note would be Microsoft Word.
Could you see anybody (excluding people who want pain) not
using ms word?
Microsoft has put it self in a position
where the consumers are dependent on this
product.
they didn't get into this position by
killing every warez server. they indirectly
encouraged it.
bill gates him self said that he
doesn't have a problem with all the piracy in china.
he said; that when they (chinese
software users) come to america, all they "know" will be Microsoft Software.
And if they come to america and
start a company- warezing is not a option.
By Microsoft using this software
model they are indirectly "forcing" the people to use that software package.
Because thats "all the know!"
peace,
akbar A.
