Rainbow Brite started out as a girl named Wisp who, magically was carried off to Rainbow land. Everything there was dull and dreary. The world had been taken over by The Dark One. Twink who was her closest friend in that realm gave her some cowardly advice. But despite that she made it her mission to find The Colour Belt and The Sphere of Light. She did this with help from her flying horse Starlight, Red Butler, Lala Orange, Canary Yellow, Patty O'Green, Buddy Blue, Indigo and Shy Violet who were all The Colour Kids. She stayed to rule Rainbow Land with the help of her new friends. Her mission was to keep bright colour throught the universe. Her worst enemies were Murky Dismal and Lurky.
Rainbow Brite and her friends first appearance on Halmark cards was in 1983. That same year Mattel put out Rainbow Brite toys and childrens books. A movie was even put out called Rainbow Brite: San Diego Zoo Adventure. The movie was mostly Lucille Bliss who narrated fun facts about animals. While amusing to children the facts weren't accurate. An example of this is where she says pink flamingos are pink because they eat pink shrink. Rainbow Brite: Peril in the Pits was the first t.v. special about her and her friend and was produced by DiC Enterprises. It aired June 1985. Rainbow Brite: The Mighty Monstromurk Menace aired in December 1985 !
