History: He was the greatest of Predacon warriors on Cybertron, adhering to the Predacon Code and respecting well his origins. When given the opportunity to further the Predacon cause by joining up with the new commander, Megatron, he agreed. However, when the Predacon ship and its stolen cargo crashed down on an unknown, uncharted planet, he realized the folly of Megatron's leadership. He openly declared him a fool and a failure, and defected, hoping to take command of the Maximals on the planet and use them to foil Megatron and win the war for the true Predacons and himself. The Maximals would not permit him to usurp command, but they grudgingly allowed him to join, if only to increase their numbers. His knowledge of Predacon ways has proved helpful in winning battles, even though the Maximals, particularly the rat, do not care for him "take-no-prisoners" attitude.
He has convinced himself that Maximal ways are the ways of the weak, yet he back them up in every fight due to his hatred for Megatron. Follow well the principals of the Predacon code of honor: insult weaknesses and abandon the injured. Snarl, hiss, and growl, and is not afraid to lose his temper with those who are peace-loving, and, thus, slow-minded. He misses no oppurtunity to throw a wisecrack back at the rat, should he attempt to insult him; Dinobot is a member of a proud and noble race. However, he will always operate with honor, especially in combat. Dinobot will never hit an opponent while he is down, nor make a challenge which he do not deem fair.

Timeline: Dinobot defects to the Maximal alliance on the first episode of the television series. He remains a Maximal throughout the first season.
Dinobot reaches a point of flux. Inside, he still feels that he is a Predacon, but he cannot consider himself a member of a race that would accept a leader like Megatron: a leader who punishes the innocent, a leader whose ambition is leading him to insanity. He struggle with his values, struggles with his feelings, and, most of all, struggles with the concept of his own future. Does he really have a destiny with the Maximals? Is he on the road to fulfilling his destiny, or failing himself forever? At any regard...Megatron must not win.
Dinobot defects back to the Predacon side in the episode, "Maximal No More," and from then on is difficult for the Maximals to trust. He then begins to prepare for the worst, storing his identity in the Maximal computer. Dinobot dies in the episode "Code of Hero," sacrificing himself for the future of humanity, and posthumously gaining the admiration of all Maximals.
