Westland Sea King

The Sea King helicopter is manufactured by GKN Westland in the UK. Development started in the late 1950s under licence of the S-61 helicopter from Sikorsky. Westland initially developed the S-61 as an anti-submarine warfare helicopter for the UK Royal Navy. Sea King is also operational as a search and rescue helicopter and as an airborne early warning helicopter

The Seaking has been in service for more than 25 years and more than 300 are in service around the world. Sea Kings are in service with the airforces of the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Egypt, Germany, India, Belgium (see picture under the title), Egypt, ...

The five main rotor blades, which are constructed of composite materials, are folded and spread automatically for ease of stowage on ship. The main rotor is equipped with a primary and an auxiliary hydraulic system. A separate hydraulic system which operates the blade folding and the rotor brake, also operates the landing gear and the winches for the sonar and the rescue hoist. The helicopter can carry four torpedoes. The helicopter can also be armed with four Mark 11 depth charges two anti-ship missiles.
