Lancashire Checker Newsletter No. 1. December 1990
Editorial
It will soon be Christmas. And at this Joyful Time there is not much happening. Until next year. When we will have the Arthur Jones and Ron Bumby Memorial Tourneys. Plus the Reverend C. E. Shaw Tourney in honour of this Great Gentleman of Checkers.
I know the First Round of the Lancashire Championship for 1991 is now being played enthusiastically, and I haven't an inkling who will be trying to take my Title and Top Board from me next year.
I am very proud to say, with humility, that going into 1991 I clearly lead the British Correspondence Championship. But though this is wonderful for Lancashire, staying there will be tough. But I sure will try.
We now have two regular Draughts Clubs in Manchester. One meets at 7.30 p.m. every Wednesday (not Boxing Day) at The Castle Hotel in Oldham Street. The other meets at 7.30 p.m. every Friday at the Falconers Arms in Stamford Street Altrincham. All are welcome any time.
Happy Christmas and Goodwill to All.
Player Profiles
This issue we begin a new series of profiles on existing LDA players and also past members whose memorial trophies we now play for (their names and characters may mean a great deal to our longstanding members but to our new players theyre just a name on a trophy, so send your contributions and anecdotes on Messrs. Bumby, Jones etc. to John Reade for later publication). To start the ball rolling we take a look at our reigning County Champion Frank Bednall.
