A Dream

Only when I wake do I know it was a dream
Love being just a delusion in a stolen heart
I have listened with my mind only to awake
Out of my slumber and find that lonely part
Of my empty soul that knows only the dream.

Now you have hastened promptly to my side
What pray tell will you offer me in fond return
For some sweet tenderness in yearning shadows
Where you and I but for a fleeting time sojourn
Through these later days where love has passed

Do you know love, as my heart does comprehend
Or is it that you discern another love not as deep
Or dreamy in an endless state of sleep beyond ego
Have you felt passion in your soul being not asleep
As some who wake in endless academic thought

Will you remain beside me in such blissful repose
Under every star that bears witness to such desire
Will you be spent when dreamily I awake tomorrow
And leave once your wanton soul got what you require
Will I then be left awakening from my delusional dream

Where shall I lie then forsaken in unrelenting dreams
Dreaming such delusions as if on a mindless stage
And as you heartlessly walk away from this dream of mine
I will with remorse shed my silent tears on this here page
Knowing that I have woken from another delusional dream

For only when I wake do I know it was a dream
Love only a delusion created in the isolation of my mind
I have listened with my heart and found it too, lies
Not ever to be trusted in desirous matters of this kind
Awake I can not find love and asleep it fades away.
