A Moment in Time

I sit quietly, bare feet dangling off the weather beaten log into the cool clear water of the Upper Arrow Lake. The coolness of the water soothes me as the hot sun caresses the rest of my body. I listen to the story the water tells as it slaps itself against the shore and the log.

I love how the sun in conjection with the water makes a yellowish white design in the ripples. When the sun hits the water directly it is like staring at the most brilliant of the diamonds in the world. A small yellow butterfly announces its existence. A wasp comes to annoy me.

A breeze now helps the water to cool me. Tiny white crests form on the waves. Creatures hide in the forest. I hide within myself. A bull frog sounds by the creek that flows into the lake. An osprey flies overhead with his catch. The Osprey nests are the same as the year before and the years before that. I am not a bird, I can not fly away. My tears are always inside me waiting for the first opportunity to escape. The Osprey's beauty allows one to escape quietly. I know I prevent myself from breathing. I will always dance alone in the moonlight.
