Eta Tau History
May 14, 1970

The Eta Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated was chartered on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University on May 14, 1970. The Mighty Eta Tau chapter was the first historically Black and Greek organization chartered on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. We pride ourselves in the ability to perform more programs, community service, and projects of quality than any other Greek organization on this campus. We were chartered by eight dynamic, devastating, determined, innovative, initiating women who saw a need for this predominantly white university to embrace a different culture. These women were at the forefront of social, political, economic, and international issues facing the students of Virginia Commonwealth University as well as the surrounding areas of Richmond, Virginia. The Eta Tau chapter’s reach goes beyond the daily acts of public service on our campus, Sorors continue their acts of public service even after they have graduated from this institution.
