YOU CAN HELP
OUR PETITION TO THE
SUPERVISORS AND TRUSTEES
I have been circulation a
petition which I intend to submit to the Supervisors
and to the Trustees.
In
the petition we are simply asking these county officials to take immediate
action to preserve and
protect
this pioneer cemetery.
The
trustees have but two jobs, 1) fire protection and 2) cemetery protection. They have
money
for non-owned cemeteries but have not asked for
all of it. At the same time they
are saying
that
they do not tax for the maintenance of this cemetery. They have been shirking their
responsibility for many years while our ancestors and the pioneers of
Eden Township have had
their final resting place desecrated and destroyed.
These pioneers have the right to expect that their living
descendants will pay proper respect
by taking care of the cemeteries which they expected to be maintained.
We are not asking for an elaborate landscaping project nor
do we expect the cemetery to become
a
"Forest Lawn." We do expect that our county officials will use the money
provided in the tax structure
to do their job.
If
you agree and want to help you can print the petition
which is on the next page. Fill it
out
and sign it yourself then take it around to your friends and
acquaintences and ask them to sign it
also. When you have gathered all
of the signatures you think you can send the petition
to me to
be included
with the signatures I have obtained.
So
far I have not asked a single person to sign this petition who declined. THAT INCLUDES
GARY AND JULIE BUCK, ONE OF THE PRESENT OWNERS OF THE SURROUNDING
PROPERTY.
Everyone
agrees that something should be done to protect and restore this cemetery. This petition
will
certainly convince the Trustees and the Supervisors that they should do what
the citizens
want
done.
You should have no trouble at all getting people to sign.
Thank
you for your help. Mail your
petition to me at:
