I am you and you are me
you may change your name to hide the truth for centuries but I am you and you are me |
Culture lost as you worshipped worldly gods
so what good is confession to sons and daughters on your death bed that I am you and you are me |
In the shadow of a transparent facade
you wear a mistaken identity as you seek acceptance in a world you believe would not want you if they knew that I am you and you are me |
God the chemist blended us together
but life is fruitless if the seed of ancestry withers from lack of courage to sow in your child I am you and you are me |
I hear you speak of me
your heritage artfully concealed because of the shame that I am you and you are me but it is another's shame you hide in as you deny I am you and you are me |
I am what you feel
I am your soul I walk with you and sleep with you I give you passion as I course through your veins to the next generation for I am you and you are me |
Sometime you speak of me
and almost proclaim that I am you but the fear of unveiling your duplicity hinders you from celebrating with your new child that I am you and you are me |
Don't let me die when you die
pass me on to your children and their children for it is a proud and noble legacy that I am you and you are me |
I weep as your children learn to be
what you are not as you deny them the history of those who showed the world how to live in peace and harmony for one hundred and fifty years |
Who am I that laments?
I am your Acadian and Mi'kmaq heritage the memory of a blended blood which man can never put asunder for I am you and you are me - FOR ETERNITY |
