The Gameplay

Now the gameplay is totally unique. It mixes elements from the best games on the Playstation, Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy VII.

All of Manhatten is computer
rendered, giving it a very FF7
and RE2 feel to the exploration.
The movement is alot like FF7, while taking things like item slots, to carry
your equipment, from Resident Evil.

In Parasite Eve, the player basically controls just one character, Aya, while there are other characters to help you out. So, you've got just one character to focus on, so what does Square do? Give her some pretty cool weapons and armor. Like what? Well there's things like shotguns and Rocket Launchers. If you ask me, any game with rocket launchers in 'em are damn good.

The Battle System

Well, you're probably thinking this game's just a combo of RE2 and FF7. Not when you look at the battle system.   The fighting is where Parasite Eve is truly differerent. Final Fantasy Alumni will immediately be reminded of the AT bar, which when built up means Aya is ready to make her move.

the Parasite Energy Bar

The PE bar is something new, but nothing truly difficult. PE, or Parasite Energy, is nothing more than magic. Aya starts with the ability to heal her Hit Points 30 when ever she has the PE to cast the "spell." Other spells will come with experience, such as more powerful healing, a spell which reminds me of haste, and the ever popular "scan" style spell which will check in on a monster of your choosing and give you the low-down on the baddie. The lovely thing about PE energy is that it builds up after time, no messy, expensive Ether potions to use.

Movement in Battle

So here you are, waiting for Aya's AT meter to build up, right? Well don't just stand here! Move the poor girl around! That's right, the directional pad on your controller moves Aya around the battle screen.

You can move her away from monsters, and even dodge attacks from them. This is a major leap over the normal turn based battle where misses are decided by your characters stats. So, in Pe, Aya gets to play Rocky, stick and move, stick and move.
However, remember that your foes are not stationary (at least most of them) either. Some will go as far to chase the lovely heroine around the screen while their own AT meters' build up in hopes of turning her into a bloody mess.

Weapons

In the true way of guns, Aya can attack from a distance. Some weapons have a greater range than others. However the closer you are, the better chance you have of hitting your target. Also like guns, if you are farther away, you might just graze what you're shooting at, and not cause as much damage as a point blank attack would.

Sorry nightstick fans, if you wanna use this weapon, you have to be too close for comfort with many baddies. You're better off exploiting Aya's sharpshooting abilities.

Ammo is limited, but its not impossible to find either. Once a fight ends, you'll find many monsters carrying bullet clips on them. Don't worry about bullet capacity, chances are you won't max out Aya's bullet count for a while, and if you do, you can always store your extras at Police HQ. (This also holds true for extra arms, armor, and items that are only taking up space in your inventory.)
