chapter one

Faya sat in her room, with candles lit all around her in the dark. She sat cross- legged, eyes closed, he tips of her pointer finger and thumb touching. She sat there, humming, concentrating. She had a mission to do, and she wasn't about to mess this one up.

Taylor Hanson sat in his seat on the way to Los Angles, half asleep. His brother Zac was beside him, listening to a CD, while his older brother was next to Zac, writing another chapter in his science fiction novel. He sighed. He wished he could just spend some more time at home, in Tulsa, instead of always flying halfway across the county, either to the East coast or the West. He looked out the window, watching the city of Los Angles appear beneath them, wondering what would happen this time.

"Alright, kids, let's go get the cab." said Walker Hanson, after his family had exited the terminal and gotten their luggage--not an easy task with seven kids with him. Without waiting for a response, he picked up his bag and started to walk out the door. Everyone followed suit, and after what seemed like three hours, were at the hotel.

"You three get that room, your dad, Mackie and Zoe are going to be in that room, and Jess and Avie are with me." Diana said. "Yea! We get our own room!" said a tad-too- hyper Zac. He rubbed his hands together with a big fake grin on his face. Isaac rolled his eyes, while Taylor just looked at his brother. "You three be good." Diana said, looking particularly at Zac. "We'll be fine Mom." Ike assured his mother. "Alright, you know where were are." "Yup." Taylor said with a nod as he followed his younger and older brother into their hotel room. "I get this one!" Zac said and jumped on the middle bed out of three. Isaac set his bag on the one cloest to the door, and left Taylor the one by the balcony. The room was well furnished, with the three beds against a wall, a rather large TV on top of a short chest with enough drawers for the three of them, across from the beds, and a door on each side. On the left was a door that connected that room with the one right next to it, and the other the bathroom. On the left wall were two large sliding doors that led out the balcony. Taylor took out his book and settled on his bed, while once again Zac took out his CD player. "I'm gonna go check out the floor, k?" Ike said to his brothers. He got a faint nod from Taylor, who was already indulged in his book. "Mmmmhmmm."

Isaac opened the door and grabbed the key on his way out. The last time he'd forgotten to do that, his brothers' had kept him locked outside in the hall for three hours. He walked out into the hall and looked around. Elevators to the right, ice and soda machines to the left. Ike made a mental note. He walked over to the soda machine and pulled out a crumpled dollar bill from his pocket. He put it in the slot and got a Dr. Pepper. After opening it and taking a drink, Isaac walked to the elevators, wanting to go down the the lobby and do some more exploring.

As he arrived on the first floor, he thought he saw a girl dressed in black. But after another look, she wasn't there. Strange he thought. He shook his head and headed to the little gift shop. Isaac grabbed a few snacks, paid for them, then walked around some more. As he was leaving the lobby, he thought he saw the girl out of the corner of his eye. But when he turned his head, she wasn't there. He began to question his sanity and if he'd gotten enough sleep the night before. He turned the corner to do some more exploring.

By the time Isaac had seen the pool, health spa, and some other cool feathures the hotel had bragged about, he'd seen the strange girl five times. Now he really thought he was starting to lose it. So he just decided to go back to the hotel. Once safe inside his room, he sat one his bed, rather confused at this point. Who was the girl? Did I even see anyone or am I just losing it? Taylor noticed his brother's blank expression. He got up and walked past his sleeping younger brother, who had fallen asleep while listening to the radio. "Hey, how was your little adventure around the hotel?" he asked. Isaac, still staring in front of him, answered "Strange." Tay sat down on the bed. "Like how?" Ike turned to face his younger brother. "I kept seeing this girl, dressed in all black. But when I'd look again, she wasn't there." Tay looked surprised. He knew they had lost sleep, but he didn't think Ike had lost that much sleep. He just rasied an eyebrow at his brother. "You think I'm nuts, don't you?" Taylor kinda nodded. He patted Ike on the shoulder and whispered, "Get some sleep."

Faya sat, still in her room watching all of this. Perfect she thought. Her trick had worked. Just a few more tortures, maybe to the youngest, then she'd go with her main plan. First, make the oldest feel like he's losing it. Then appear to the middle one, lure him right into her trap, then go for the youngest. She smiled wickedly to herself. Jeya will be proud. She thought. Jeya was the head of this whole mission. Her plan was to destroy the group known as Hanson. They were too smart, and too close to discovering the witches. There had ben a close call when one of the clan had become a fan, and almost told the boys who and what she was. But she was no longer a problem.

Faya was part of a whole clan of witches, dedicated to evil and making peoples lives miserable. Faya was one of the best. Almost as good as Jeya. They met once every month, and Jeya would assign one of the thousands of witches living in this country a mission to destroy people who were smart enough to discover the witches, and their plan to rule the earth once again. (AN: Sounds a little corny, I know, but bear with me :-)

Faya was sure this plan would work. She was very sure. And she'd make sure it would. No one had ever escaped her torturing grasp.
