Geohazard Case Studies 1997-98

Case Study Information


Read this carefully. Your mark depends on how well you follow these steps!

Introduction

Each student is required to start a Case Study on their assigned topic. A Case study is a detailed investigation of an incident(or organization) or problem involving your Geohazard. The objective is to demonstrate the mechanics of your Geohazard (Explain the natural or geologic processes involved), and the implications for society, the economy, and the environment.

Remember that your Case study is a research project, you are not doing a police investigation into (example forColin and Eric: Waste Diposal Hazardous waste disposal in Lasalle), you are conducting research.

All information will be placed on your Web Page after consultation with the teacher. At this stage each student has:

Sources

Your sources are endless. Look on the internet, e-mail professors, scientists, geographers, fellow students, anyone who might have information about your topic. Search OnLine Newspapers for relevant articles about your topic (or read your newspaper at home. Use Library resources. Interviews will be helpful. Experiments will also help your project.


Format

1. The Main body of the case study should be no longer than three pages.

2. Include your sources on a separate web page that links to internet sites, and lists other sources used.

3. Include transcripts from interviews, useful images etc...


Evaluation

The evaluation of the project will greatly depend on the effort you put into meeting the required objectives stated above. You will be marked on your Web Page, your research, the Presentation of your material, and Effort in finding interesting sources of information. Your Web pages will also receive comments from outside internet viewers (Parents, teachers, principal) to the quality of presentation of your project
