Chapter Three...First Meetings

She smiled and said a very quiet, “Thanks.” Jennifer, on the other hand yelled, “My best friend is da bomb!!!” and ran over to talk to Hanson. Kelsey laughed at her. Was she always sugar-high? Jennifer quickly did the introducing.

Zac Hanson smiled. He swore he was looking at a female version of himself. He had met Jennifer not two seconds before, but he already liked her. She looked like she’d be fun to talk to. Plus, she had the same Doc Martins he did.

Isaac grinned at the girl who was now jumping up and down. The blond, Jennifer, was definitely like Zac. The brown haired one, Kelsey, hadn’t said much, but when she was performing he had learned one valuable thing about her: she loved her music. She had gone into a whole other world and there wasn’t even an audience. He already liked the girls.

Taylor stared at the girl who was drumming. She was just as good as Zac!!! She looked as though she were Taylor’s age, though. He examined her. He liked the way she didn’t appear to have any make up on. The girls with tons of make up had never exactly drawn his attention to them. She was amazing on the drums - he thought, “I wonder if she plays the keyboard.”

“And Kelsey plays the keyboard, too...” Jennifer said, answering Taylor’s silent question without realizing it. By now Jennifer had revealed anything you could possibly want to know about her and much more such as, “I don’t have a boyfriend,” Kelsey smiled when she said that. “Good going, Jennifer,” she thought, trying to contain her laughter.

Kelsey solved this problem by asking a nearby guard, “Can I test the keyboard?” The guard nodded. Then she heard an unfamiliar voice behind her, “Maybe I’ll go with you. Do you mind?” Kelsey turned around and saw Taylor Hanson. She smiled and shook her head ‘no’.

The two walked over to the keyboard together. Taylor tried to think of something to say, “Umm...so, how old are you?” Kelsey answered quickly and simply, “12.” Taylor couldn’t believe it. No way. She seemed so much mature than his 12 year old brother.

Then he recalled something Jennifer had said, “Kelsey can’t go an hour without sticking her nose in a book.” “Is that true?,” he asked her. Kelsey looked at him, obviously confused. “That you can’t go an hour with sticking your nose in a book.” Kelsey blushed, answering his question. “Don’t feel bad, I can’t either.” She shot that killer smile at him. “Jeez, she looks pretty when she smiles,” he thought, “Tay, don’t do this - what would your fans say?”

Kelsey was staring at him, wishing she had the power to actually put sentences together long enough to get them out of her mouth. She managed it, “So, umm..., what are you going to play?” Taylor looked at her and then realized it (duh, they were at a sound check) “I was thinking about a song I’m working on.” Kelsey smiled, showing her approval. She listened as he played.

“Wow,” she thought, “He loves this. He looks so amazing playing. Jeez, Kelsey, shut up!” She began concentrating on Taylor’s song. When he was done he asked almost shyly, “Well, what do you think?” “It’s great, but you might want to try replacing the As with a few Cs in the eleventh” shot out of her mouth before she could even think. She thought, “Oh, my God I just told Taylor Hanson how to write music.”

Taylor stared at her. He had never thought about doing that. She looked like she had been uncomfortable telling him what to do. But he had to try it out. He put his fingers on the keyboard and tested it. It came out sounding like he had always wanted it to sound: perfect. “Hey, you really know what you’re talking about!” he said, slightly amazed. At this, he saw a whole new Kelsey - they were talking music and she loved talking about it, “Oh, really what’s that supposed to mean?” she asked with a smile on her lips.

“Nothing!” Taylor said, surprised at her sudden change in attitude. She flashed that smile at him again. “God, will she ever stop doing that? It’s driving me crazy!” Taylor thought desperately. Kelsey grinned again, “Yeah, right,” she said and slowly walked away, flashing that smile at him again.

“Hold on, two can play at this game,” Taylor thought and ran toward her. He grabbed her from behind and turned her around. “Hey, it was obviously something that I didn’t do, because I’m a perfect angel,” he said and gave her his best innocent look. She grinned at him and thumped him in the chest, “Oh, really, now?” “Yeah,” he said. He decided to do his ‘Now my feelings are hurt’ act. He put his lips in a pout and hung him head.

When Kelsey saw that pout she thought she’d die. “That boy is so fine!!!” she thought.

She quickly shoved the thought out of her mind. “Why are you such an angel, pretty boy?” She asked him, smiling.

“Oh, it’s just a fact of life, I guess,” Taylor answered. “The guys who are good-looking are just naturally angels...and I am so fine it just makes me perfect.” Kelsey laughed. Taylor smiled - he loved it when she laughed. “Hmm...I see Mr. Angel has got an ego!” Kelsey said, still laughing. Taylor grinned.

Just then the guys’ manager told them to sing for the soundcheck. Taylor piped up, “I will, but Kelsey and Jennifer have to sing first.” Kelsey and Jennifer blushed. Jennifer said no, but she insisted Kelsey would have to. Kelsey was about to strangle Jennifer, but she stepped up to the microphone. “What do you want me to sing?” she asked, trying to stall.

“Sing ‘On the Side of Angels’ from LeAnn Rimes. You sound just like her.” Jennifer instructed her. Taylor took this into perspective. If she sounded like LeAnn Rimes, there was no way he would ever be able to forget her. She had looks, brains, music in her, and if what Jennifer said was true, a voice sent from heaven.
