Chapter Eight...Two Couples

Kelsey walked in there and looked at Jennifer. “I’m okay Jennifer.” Jennifer looked up and said, “Thank God,” and gave Kelsey a hug. The foursome sat down and Zac put his arm around Jennifer. Taylor considered putting his arm around Kelsey, but decided against it - he knew Kelsey was the type of girl that would slap a guy if he pulled a move she didn’t like. But before he could think of anything else, Kelsey had positioned herself next to him and was leaning close to him. Taylor pretended to put his arm on the coach, but in reality, he was putting his arm around Kelsey.

To his surprise, she acted as though his arm belonged there. Taylor decided to try something else. He very slowly slipped his hand into hers. Kelsey’s fingers carefully wrapped around his. When she did this, Taylor couldn’t help but smile. If she didn’t love him, she at least liked him. Taylor leaned back contentedly and began talking comfortably. Kelsey felt so safe in Taylor’s arms, she felt as though she could overcome anything.

Jennifer smiled. She couldn’t believe Zac Hanson’s arm was around her and he loved her. It just almost seemed too good to be true. Zac felt the same way about Jennifer. He just couldn’t believe a girl this beautiful, kind, and well...perfect could possibly be interested in him. But he knew she was, that she really did love him.

The four of them talked for awhile when Zac decided to turn on the radio. At that moment, ‘Splish Splash’ came on and Zac’s eyes lit up. He looked at Taylor, “Please? Come on, we gotta!!!” Tay looked at Kelsey and blushed, “Uh, no, Zac not this time.” This only caused Zac to whine, “Please? We always do! You tradition-breaker!” Taylor looked at Kelsey, “Aww, come on Taylor,” Kelsey encouraged him. Taylor sighed and got up.

All of a sudden, they began dancing wildly and singing along with the song. Zac kept jumping on the couch and doing karate moves. Taylor strummed an invisible guitar wildly, throwing his hair back. This was too much for Jennifer and Kelsey. They started laughing and gasping for breath. They had tears in their eyes as Taylor and Zac danced together crazily. This was a dance they had made some years before but considered too juvenile to perform except in private. Kelsey and Jennifer could see why. They were sitting there, laughing harder than they ever had before. Soon the tears were rolling down their cheeks, “Please, guys no more. My stomach hurts,” Jennifer pleaded. Kelsey was laughing too hard to say anything.

Taylor turned off the radio and instantly became as red as a tomato. He smiled when he saw Kelsey laughing. Zac grinned - this had been his whole reason of doing that - to get Jennifer to smile again.

Now she looked happy and in Zac’s mind more beautiful than anything else in the world.

When the two girls finally stopped, they avoided looking at each other, knowing they would start again if their eyes met. Zac sat down by Jennifer and began to kiss her tears again. Kelsey looked at Taylor and mouthed, “Let’s go.” He grabbed her hand and led her out of the room quietly. He had decided to tell her.
